Monthly Musings
1. Enjoying spending time with the girls before Abby’s last year of college begins and Alyssa’s first year begins.
We went to Canada to see my sister and her family- so many great memories!
We went to Kings Island (large amusement park near us). We had season passes for a number of years and went many times
We went to our neighborhood pool- it is at the end of our street. We spent a lot of time there when the kids were younger.

3. My favorite summer destination would be to see my sister in Ontario, Canada. It’s always a bit cooler in temperature up there and my sister lives near Lake Erie so we had lots of good times at the lake
4. As much as I enjoy spending time at Lake Erie, I definitely prefer the ocean. And the kids do, too.

5. I always pack plenty of plastic bag to store wet swimsuits when we are traveling via car to a beach destination. Alyssa and I have been watching the documentary about the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. One girl from New Jersey mentioned how plastic bags were not available in New Jersey and how she should bring plastic bags from Texas to NJ and sell them :). That reminded me of last June when I made the discovery that NJ does not have plastic bags in grocery stores. Well, I have a plethora of them in Ohio and use them!!
6. I don’t have a favorite summer movie...
7. Probably lemonade though I don’t drink it often.
8. A lot of popular songs from the 80’s remind me of summer even if they weren’t popular during the summer. Summertime reminds me of being carefree and the songs from the 80’s remind me of when I was young and carefree so I sort of associate the two :).
9. I can take or leave condiments on my burger and hot dogs. Sometimes, I put condiments on and sometimes I don’t. With a burger, I love to have onions (preferably caramelized) and lettuce.
10. Gas grill although we are in between grills right now. Donnie is about ready to order a Blackstone.
We don't have plastic bags in any Connecticut stores either (or Maine).. but I do bring large Ziploc bags with us to the beach for storing wet items in or have 2 bags one for wet and one for dry clothes. I very rarely travel anywhere without extra ziploc bags in a variety of sizes since they come in so handy for so many things. All these throwback photos are so fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joanne! It must be a lot of states in the east that ban them. I think that New York has banned them as well. Before we left for New Jersey for a month last year, I meant to check to see if NJ banned them but that task fell through the cracks. Oh well. We survived without them ;). Ziploc bags would be a good alternative!!
DeleteMy daughter and I watched the DCC this week while I've been here with her. She had minor surgery and couldn't lift anything so I've been helping with her babies. I used to think I loved the ocean more, but after moving to a lake almost eight years ago I now much prefer the lake. Our lake anyway, because it's crystal clear. Happy summer!
ReplyDeleteI hope your daughter is recovering well- how wonderful that you are with her and helping out. We are enjoying the show- it´s clean and I like how they are showcasing the faith of some of the cheerleaders (and not making a mockery out of it...). I can see how you would prefer lake since you live on one. I do like Lake Erie and all of the Great Lakes- I think I´ve seen all of them- but they don´t compare to the ocean to me!

DeleteSo many fun memories and great photos! Just confirms what I already believed...summer is the best! I would love to have someone to visit (regularly) north of the border. That sounds like fun! Those blackstones are all the rage - almost as much as air fryers!! Hope you enjoy yours. And I was a bit surprised with your favorite drink choice:) Enjoyed reading your summer musings. Oh, and no plastic bags in NJ?! Hmm. And I read earlier this week (just learned this fun fact), you cannot pump your own gas in NJ. Where do these laws/ideas come from? lol -
ReplyDeleteHow is one supposed to know about the no pumping your own gas until you get there or live in a nearby state? (Ok, I guess you found out!). Funny-ish story about that. {Prior to going to NJ, I had no idea.} So I am in Jersey and I need gas. I pull into a station and see these three young guys standing around just kind of watching Abby and me. To me, just seeing three young men watching us as I pull into the station made me nervous. That they were very likely employees and waiting to pump my gas never entered my mind. Instead, I told Abby that I felt uncomfortable with the guys watching us. So we left! And then we went to another gas station. And that´s when I realized that drivers don´t pump their own gas. But how was a random Ohioian supposed to know that?? My stars! I am looking forward to the Blackstone because it means Donnie will be cooking more :).

DeleteI am with you on the ocean but the lake is a close 2nd- love the pics of the kids on the beach and with the slip n slide-brings back awesome memories. Ok NJ just got even more weird in my head- ha!! Unbelievable! Diana and I can't wait to watch the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders series :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Holly! You guys will like the series... We haven´t finished watching it yet but the episodes we´ve watched have all been good. It´s interesting to get a sneak peak behind the process of try outs and then the hard work that it takes to cheer (I mean you kind of know that already but to see the cheerleaders working hard really brings it home).
ReplyDeleteI agree about the 80's music. For me even 70's tunes too remind me of my childhood and teen years. I want to watch the DCC show since I liked the old version. That is kind of crazy about the plastic bags! I use them for so many things around the house. I was just remembering the other day about how they used to tell us not to use paper bags at the store since it killed trees. Now that is considered the ecofriendly choice. Hmmmm...makes you think. I wonder what they'll tell us next...ha, ha!
ReplyDeleteI love all of the photos - such sweet memories! I like my burgers with cheese, a bun, and the meat! We also use plastic bags quite a bit- especially for garbage bags in our bathroom cans!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Megan! We do that, too, with plastic bags. They are great to line little waste baskets with. No condiments at all? And I thought that I was a burger minimalist :).
