A look back at the week, Monday thru Friday, through photos

Enjoyed what I thought was the girls' first full week of summer break. However, in looking at the calendar, it appears that last week was the first full week. So we/they are on to week two. Both girls are working at their summer jobs (well, Alyssa had hers prior to the summer) and when they aren't working, they're spending time with friends and their boyfriends. I would say, based not on any deep talks but rather on surface observations, that they are having a really good summer so far. What more could a mama ask for?

I was busy with grad party planning activities. Even without having the party at home, there is a lot of work to do. Plus there are many considerations to think about/ plan for when an event is not at your home and you don't have access to all of your home stuff.  Even though we don't have the stress of getting the house ready for the event, we are having family come to stay with us so we will have guests this weekend and need to have space clean and ready for guests. So it has been busy to say the least but not too bad for me personally! Terrible national news but hopefully an appeal will fix all that? 

Let’s think and talk about something other than that.

Our yard looks its best in late May through June. The grass is usually green still from spring rain. July and August’s heat and little rain render the grass less than lush looking and certainly not the verdant green that we get to see in May and June. So, I always try to appreciate the lawn in May and June. This week was a good one for pretty sights in the yard as several perennials bloomed for the first time of the season.

Such brightness...

Earlier in the week, I was outside and saw three Shasta daises.

Just one day later, more were in bloom.

...and some were thinking about it. 

The Asiatic lilies bloomed. They don't stay open for long.

...so looking at them and photographing them are enjoyable and relaxing activities for me each late spring

The spiderwort plants are spreading like crazy (they are considered invasive in some parts of the country) and I have already pulled a few new growths out.

The daylilies began to bloom as well.

The allysums are blooming but they have not come in fully. They will get their photo shoot later in the season :).

On Wednesday, one of Donnie’s work colleagues, Richard, was honored for years of volunteering. He was recognized by the Centerville Washington Foundation, an organization that gives back to the community and beyond. The event was in the middle of the day (it was a luncheon) in Centerville. Donnie worked from home so that he could take me to the event with him and then back home to work. Donnie has worked with Richard the entirety of Donnie's legal career and we've know Richard and his wife Eileen personally for as long as Donnie has been with the firm. For the luncheon, we sat at a table with some of Donnie's colleagues. I enjoyed seeing and talking to many of Donnie's colleagues and spouses. 

The event occurred in the clubhouse of the golf course Yankee Trace

Donnie told me the event was sold out with a couple of hundred people in attendance.

Oh, I forgot that I took a couple of pictures in the veggie garden. I was going to include them in the Monthly Musing post but I forgot to add them (I wrote that post in a hurry...)

I no longer have baby tomatoes, rather kid ones!

Hope to grow squash and cucumber this year...

Most of the rest of the week I was doing my thang- making a mess and more work than necessary!!
