A look back at the week, Monday thru Friday, through photos-

Just another week in paradise a very hot place!  Like a good part of the country, we were in a “heat dome” this week with way higher than average temperatures. It didn’t impact me much because I am a shut-in+. I can and do get out but not nearly like I used to since I can’t drive. This too, like the extreme heat, shall pass. 

I’ll start with dinners because they were good ones. Monday and Tuesday were the best dinners ever. What were these meals called? LEFTOVERS. For Father’s Day, I’d prepared a large turkey and a large ham plus a few sides. There was no way for thirteen people to eat all of that food. I sent Jacob back to his place with food but we still had a lot leftover. It was great. I didn't cook on Monday or Tuesday. It was wonderful mentally to not have to think about what to make/prepare.

I  couldn’t help but think even more fondly of Monday and Tuesday’s leftover dinner :). I should have taken more messy kitchen pics on Wednesday. (Should is maybe not the right word; perhaps could is better!) The island was strewn with cut up vegetable detritus and food packages. The meal that I made was good- will write more about it later- and bonus, I had the good sense to make a double batch of it so that we could eat it the next day (no one complains about eating a meal they like two days in a row, thankfully).  

So dinners were good- just made one messy but tasty dinner and the rest were leftovers (Friday was a meal out).

I had physical therapy two times this week. The first time that I went this week, Cecil (my PT) told me that per the protocol for my surgery I could be out of my book this week and not next. But, I meet with the surgeon next week and the surgeon had already told me that I was to be in the boot until my appointment with him next week. So, I wasn’t planning on getting out of the boot until next week; nonetheless, hearing that per the protocol, I could have gotten out of it this week was a little frustrating. 

After telling me about the boot protocol, Cecil, who is of a very equanimous nature, looked at me with a, “I am in the medical profession and I know many patients lie,” look; though his voice did not betray a hint of distrust, asked me, “You aren’t walking without your boot are you?” Of course not! I am nothing if but a rule follower! 

On the garden front- good and bad news. On Monday, there was just a small chance of rain but rain it did quite nicely for several minutes. The browning grass loved it as did my plants, though I’d already watered them earlier in the day. I planted a variety of tomato called Early Bird and thankfully that name is appropriate! I have one almost ripe tomato already! Last year, according to my notes, I didn’t pick my first ‘matty until July 26th...

When I inspected my earliest of birds, unfortunately, it had been sitting on the ground too long and the side that had touched the ground was mushy. Oh well, the one that is ripening is bigger and it is not touching the ground. One of my zucchini plants does not have any zuccs growing on it. I will hand pollinate if it does not start producing real fast...

I have a plant growing out of my compost bin that is either a tomato plant... or a weed. It’s not flowering and if it doesn’t soon, I will assume it’s a weed and pull it.  It’s growing nicely though, whatever it is 😆

I got to have lunch with a friend whom I’d only seen briefly at Alyssa’s grad party and could not recall the last time before that. She forgot to pick me up :(. Since I can’t drive we arranged for her to pick me up.  She felt horrible but it was no big deal for Alyssa to run me up to the restaurant. We ate at Warped Wing brewery which is only about a mile and a half from our house. We had a great time catching up. And, yes, got chili for lunch because it sounded good and it was about sixty degrees inside the restaurant which means I was freezing.

Despite the heat, I did a little bit of walking around and shopping in our downtown for an event that Abby was helping the city with. I enjoyed being out and about in our downtown despite the less than ideal weather and walking conditions...
