UPitP- 2nd week of e-learning (March 30- April 3) Alternatively- I am a GREAT home schooling mom!!

All right, not really. That title of this post is pure sensationalism :).

Here is how the girls' homeschooling/ e-learning is going as the second week finishes up: they wake up and begin their school work. They don't come downstairs (where I typically am) until they have completed most of their work for the day. Occasionally, Abby will come downstairs early and make herself a cup of coffee but then she heads right upstairs again to her room.

The girls both have desks in their rooms but typically sit up in their beds and use their beds as their school command central. Alyssa is a little more prone to use her desk than Abby is.  They both have Chromebooks which they always took to school when they went to school. Now, their Chromebooks are their schools. All of their assignments are on google classroom and they turn in all their work on google classroom. Most of their teachers post videos explaining what their homework is and a short lesson on the topic they're teaching.

When the girls come downstairs, it's a great time for me to check up on them and do my "home school mom" duties. These duties include asking questions such as, "Are you done with your work for the day?" and, "Do you have any questions about your assignments?" The answer to those questions dictate the rest of the conversation about school that we have/ the rest of my home school mom duties. The girls have never requested my help with anything pertaining to their school work.... so, my duties are pretty light and pretty much confined to the aforementioned questions.

Jacob has only been doing his college from home for a little over a week. I'm trying to balance being conversational with him about school with being not too intrusive about how his school is going. If Jacob were away at school, I wouldn't be asking him every day if he was studying/ keeping on track of his assignments. My goal is for him to be as independent as possible it is for someone who's living in the same house where he used to play with Power Rangers toys and Play-doh. I know many students  live at home and go to college (pre corona) so of course it's possible and not that unusual. But, Jacob had a taste of true freedom with a semester + of living away from home for college and I'm trying to be sensitive of that.

The best thing about this whole thing- I don't even know the best noun to use to describe it, is that the girls are getting way more sleep than they did when then went to school. They both begin their school day between 8:30 am and 9:00 each morning. When they went to school, they were both up before 6:00 am (their schools had among the earliest start times of any schools in the state).

In news outside the family, here are a few other happenings:

           * Donnie told me that he heard Charleston Falls Preserve (where we drove to over the weekend but a storm arrived right when we arrived) has closed due to too many people going to it. That made me sad to hear but it's not surprising.

          * New changes/ restrictions are a comin' to Ohio- The stay at home order has been extended to May 1. Beginning May 6, any stores that are still open will have to monitor how many people are entering the store and then restrict others from entering. (I guess don't leave the house to grocery shop in the rain. You may be waiting outside in the rain for who knows how long.)

         * We had FOMO when we heard there was going to be a trillion dollar stimulus bill that was likely to pass Congress and checks sent out to... most households. We were right to fear- we will not be getting a stimulus check. No Charleston Falls, no spring break trip, no money from the government?? And, I can't go inside a grocery store when I want to starting April 6? My stars.

One of my projects while the kids did their school work... organizing pictures from back in the day when the cameras that I had used film and/ or when I used to regularly get pictures printed

Better! All my picture envelopes are in order

Lots of walking and running during the week...

but also, rest days (see 3,344 steps for the day). The day of little activity was the day when the weather was the worst of the week. I didn't run or walk outside.

I had to see for myself that Charleston Falls was not permitting visitors... Donnie was right.

So, my picture project elicited lots of looking at pictures from years' past. I took a picture of this picture and sent it to the bride in the photo. The girls were flower girls in her wedding. This was from 2010.

I've uploaded thousands of pictures to Shutterfly over the years for use in making photo gifts, photo books, etc. At least once a week, I get an email from Shutterfly with "memories" of pictures taken from a certain year ago on this date. On Thursday, I received a Shutterfly "memory" email and opened it up to see what pictures I took on that day. These photos were from April 2, 2010 when we spent two days at Great Wolf Lodge. The picture quality is terrible but the smiles on the kids' faces shine through Apple's apparent inability to create a good camera phone for quite some time (I think my phone was an iphone 3).

We had a blast at Great Wolf Lodge but I remember it was PACKED. We went during our spring break that year and many other families had the same spring break plans.
