Last day of spring break- Monday, April 13
Monday was the last day of the girls' break. I asked them if they were looking forward to e-learning starting up again. I was a little surprised when they said, "No." I thought maybe they would look forward to the quasi structure of a sort of a school day and having something to do. I was glad to hear that they weren't looking forward to it. That meant our banal spring break wasn't too bad for them (or that they absolutely hate school but I don't think it's that because the e-learning that they're doing is school lite, ie not challenging or time consuming at all) and they were sad to see it go.
We did some unplanned online shopping on Monday. I recently signed up to get emails from a store after I purchased something from the store. On Monday, I received an email about a good sale the store was having. I saw clothing items on sale that I knew the girls would like. We haven't gone shopping for clothes since August for back to school. I figured now was as good a time as any to do some shopping for summer clothes. We spent some time going through the website and picking out a few items. We didn't go crazy at all (the total was just over $100); we have not been spendthrift at all during this stay at home time- partly because we haven't been going to stores and partly because it only makes sense to be prudent with regard to spending with so many uncertainties.
The weather was cruddy so we stayed inside all day. The temperature was supposed to get up to 61 but it only got up to 41. We didn't spend any time outdoors on Monday.
Overall, I think our spring break was about as good as it could be under the circumstances. We didn't go anywhere except for places with trails and the kids didn't see any of their friends in person at all. It would have been so nice to get to go to Florida. We don't travel every spring break. Maybe once every four years we go somewhere for spring break. So it wasn't like we were breaking tradition by not traveling this year. However, our trip to Florida was something we were looking forward to. Trying not to dwell too much on the negatives though as many have it much worse than missing a trip to Florida.
School (such as it is academically) started Tuesday and with that, the girls' break ended.
Not too many exciting pictures so I'm going to do a throw back to April 13, 2019. The reason I looked through the photos on my phone for last year at this time was that I remembered I was in Buffalo/ Ontario, CA a few days before my birthday. I was curious if April 13th was one of the days I was in that area and indeed it was. Let's see how different things were:

.... and not just open for carry out. We actually ate inside the restaurant.

I remember when my sister and her family moved to Canada years ago, I was worried that the US/Canadian border would close for some reason. Well, that happened thanks to covid. It's sad and strange to think that my sister and I can't see each other (even if we were willing to eschew social distancing edicts).
Missing my sister and her family but thankful that we're all safe and healthy. We'll eat greasy pizza and wings together and cross the border again with impunity soon (HOPEFULLY).

The US- Canadian border was open. I traveled across the border three times during my brief stay
Youth sports (as well as professional ones) were being played. The reason I was in the Buffalo/ Canada area was that Alyssa's soccer team had an ECNL match in Buffalo, NY. It turns out that the soccer field where her team was playing was only about a 20 minute drive from my sister's house in Ontario. I spent the night at my sister's house on Friday night and then she and her girls and I drove to Buffalo on Saturday to see Alyssa's soccer match.
