Weekending- whirlwind and wet!

I mentioned in my previous post that Monday was super busy after school. That's exactly how Thursday was- it set the tone for the weekend. Practically non stop busy but in a good way. Also, I don't remember if it rained on Thursday or not but it definitely did Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

Thursday straight from school I drove to Sam's Club to pick up some candy for my students as an incentive/bribe (the line is pretty blurry, right?) prize. That errand took longer than expected and almost as soon as I got home I had to start dinner for Donnie, Alyssa and Jacob. I had grabbed a soft pretzel from the food court at Sam's Club for my dinner (I'd forgotten how good they are...) as I wouldn't be able to eat with the family. 

At 5:30, I had a library board meeting and of course it was a long one!! (And of course, I was reading a really good book. I just wanted to veg at home and read in the evening, not hear about roof leaks and circulation numbers at the library 😆). Finally got home, made goodie bags for my students and got together thank you gifts for teachers and staff for the next day. 

This was a gift for the teacher whom I worked the closest with. I got her a gift card to her favorite coffee shop (she drives to her favorite every morning before school (and our school starts EARLY!) to get coffee so I knew she'd appreciate it) and a little thank you seed pack that was just too cute to not purchase for her!!

I can't believe I slept as well as I did Thursday night. I was giddy for the next day!!

Finally Friday arrived! The last day of school!!! I felt like I'd spent the last seven weeks waiting for this moment...

Here I am with my work bestie. We are alike in so many ways. It's funny though when we were saying goodbye she was like, "We have to get together this summer for coffee or a beer."

How does she not know that I drink neither coffer nor beer?? I guess we were too busy bonding over the big question issues to know some of our pedestrian preferences including what items we drink and which ones we don't :). Well, I definitely hope we get together; I can always drink a pop :). 

The last day of school was fun. We did a bunch of activities outside before the rain began and then spent time inside doing a variety of activities.

And then finally we heard the glorious sound of the final bell. Apparently there's a tradition of teachers throwing water balloons at the buses as they leave the school. The weather was not ideal for this but I guess tradition trumps not getting wet from the rain... 

Me n' my Big Gulp- you'd better believe I drove straight to the gas station where I could fill this bad boy up for the first time! I'd received it as a birthday present in April but since my favorite pop has caffeine in it I could not indulge in so large a caffeine consumption due to having to get up early during the week to sub (even if I had my large pop over the weekend, poor sleep then could impact my sleep week for the week). Basically the sub job was too stressful for me to contemplate risking poor sleep so I had to forego the consumption of large quantities of pop. But on Friday after school?? I no longer had sleep to worry about. 

Friday was also special because it was our wedding anniversary! Not that the last day of school overshadowed that day or anything... Just saying the day was a good one for more than one reason :). I'd looked into making reservations at a few nice restaurants but I couldn't find any availability. We decided to go to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. Alyssa asked me what she and Jacob should do for dinner and I told them to come with us 😆. Jacob will be moving out really soon and Alyssa will be back in Columbus before we know it so we'll be empty nesters soon and will be eating almost every meal by ourselves.

Saturday morning, I got up and ran and when Alyssa woke up, she and I went on a pop and Aldi run. It was raining again but stopped by late morning so I was able to spend a bit of time in both garden areas weeding and checking up on my plants.

I had to cut my time short in the garden to go to a neighbor's grad party. Aww, I met this grad the day she came home from the hospital two days after she was born. We ended up at the party for hours talking to other neighbors and friends that were there. We did have to skedaddle, though, to get to dinner.

We met friends for dinner in Centerville and then went to the movie theater to see The Mandalorian and Grogu. 






The man who runs the movie theater where we were is someone whom Donnie has known since high school- Donnie worked at a movie theater (that has since closed) and this guy worked at the theater as well. This guy (Chris? maybe) continued working at movie theaters eventually working at and managing the one we went to on Saturday. We've seen him a few times over the years at the theater and he and Donnie always say hi in passing but he had more time before our movie started so we spent more time chatting with him than usual.

Sunday was busy! We got up and went to church and straight from there went to the grocery store to buy items for a cook out. We invited my brother, and Donnie's dad and Donnie's uncle. We had about two and half hours after we got home before our guests were coming over. Alyssa was in the kitchen with me the entire time, helping- bless her little heart. 💕

Alyssa made deviled eggs- it was the first time we'd had deviled eggs in the house... my mom never made them since they have mayonnaise in them-  they aren't something I'd grown up eating. But I love them as does Alyssa so Alyssa said she'd make some. She looked up a recipe on TT and made them. 

We didn't even make that much food but between making things and cleaning everything up, we were busy every bit of the two and half hours. Donnie grilled burgers and chicken. Everything turned out good and we had a really nice meal and time together. 

After our guests left, Donnie and I both crashed! I've been not getting enough sleep for the past seven weeks and it felt luxurious to nap in the early evening! Jacob woke me up asking about food (he wanted to know if he could have some leftovers) and then my neighbor texted me to see if we wanted to come over and sit outside and visit with them. It had rained almost the entirety of the day but it finally stopped around 7:00 pm. Well, of course we did. It was a great way to end the Saturday/Sunday portion of the weekend :).

Also congrats to my niece who graduated high school on Sunday in Indiana! We will see her in June to celebrate with her.
