Weekending

Linking up with Holly and Sarah for Hello Monday:

Friday at school was ok. There were some ups and downs. Did a fun M&M math project with the students. They enjoyed eating the M&M's at the end. Most of them thanked me for the little baggie of M&M's (I measured 1/8 of a cup of M&M's into each student's baggie which amounted to around 30 M&M's. One student came up to me after class and hugged me and thanked me for the treat. Just trying to make the last Friday of math class a little memorable in a good way :) (Next Friday is the last day of school but on that day, the students will do something completely different than their normal school day so this was our last traditional Friday schedule of the year).

When I got home from school, Abby and I decided to run an errand. We drove to Franklin to our favorite consignment/dirty soda place, Fizzy´s. No real luck in the shopping department (I did get two small things for MG) but I treated myself to the largest size pop (normally I get the second to largest) because FRIDAY and just one more week of school!

Next we went next door to a vintage record store. It sells mostly records but has some vintage toys and collectibles. It has a Star Wars section, Elvis, Barbie Doll, etc. The store is small and it´s easy to get in and out of quickly. The proprietors are a couple in their mid to late sixties. The store has to be a hobby retirement gig for them. I bought an Elvis record for Abby that she was eyeing. It was labeled in a bin with $5 records. When I went to pay for it, the man told me is was a quarter! I told him it was $5 and I´d pay him $5. He insisted that I only pay a quarter! Allrighty then!! The man´s wife did something similar with me one time- I bought some items and then on my way out, saw something else that I wanted to buy. I took it to the cash register and the lady waved her hand at me to shoo me out the door and said, ¨I don´t need any money for it.¨

Once home, I sat down on the couch to relax and saw that it was past 5:20. The place where Donnie´s car was being fixed closed at 5:30 and was not open on Saturday meaning Donnie would be without his car for the weekend if we didn´t pick it up by 5:30. But I´d not heard if the car was done (it should have been  based on the estimated time). I called Donnie to see if he´d heard anything about his car. ¨Shoot,¨ he said (may have used a different word), they called to tell me it was done but I´ve been busy and forgot to let you know. Can you pick it up before 5:30?¨ I told him that I could.

After I got off the phone with Donnie, I told Abby we needed to leave pronto. I drove us to the car place (about a mile from our house) and then Abby drove my car home. I went inside the car shop´s building to pay the bill and get Donnie´s car. They´d already locked up but when they saw me (I did get there by 5:28 so I technically was not late!) they opened up the doors. I paid, got Donnie´s keys and drove his car home. I sat back down on the couch and realized about thirteen or so minutes had elapsed from when I got off the phone with Donnie to leave to get his car until the time I got home with his car. Gotta love a small town!!

For dinner, we got pizza from a place in town (also love supporting small  restaurant business in town though we do sometimes venture outside our town for pizza!) called Roma´s. It´s owned by a genuine Eye-talian and the pizza is NY style. We realized the last time we´d gotten pizza from here was in January during the biggest snowstorm of the season (it´s honestly not our favorite though it´s good and sometimes we´re in the mood for it!). We ended up getting about 13 inches of snow that evening and into the night in January. I love the changing seasons! We´ve had such nice weather lately- it was hard to imagine that the last time we´d had that pizza it was freezing and snowing.

We watched the movie 9-5 in the evening with the girls (Jacob was out of town). Such a funny movie! They girls nor I had ever seen it.

Saturday morning I got up and ran. It didn´t rain when I ran but started to shortly thereafter. Honestly, we kind of needed the rain as it had been a while but the bad thing for  our school´s graduating seniors was... it was their graduating day. Not great to not have great weather when the weather had been so nice. Oh well, it did clear up later. From my end, I was grateful for the rain.

Abby got coffee with a friend, Donnie wanted to relax at home (I don´t blame him!) so Alyssa went with me to run some errands. First up was getting Big Gulp´s (priorities!) and then we drove to Carlise to the Farm on Central to pick up some jalepeno pepper plants. I also picked up flowers that were just too pretty pass up! The Farm on Central is definitely not a hobby business for the couple who own it and I don´t mind paying a little extra to support this family run business.

Once home, Alyssa got ready to head out to a grad party and I decided to make a cookie cake for an event we were going to later in the evening.

EEKS- not good!

Not good at all...

A broken cookie cake was not my first rodeo. It was a dirty job but I got ´er done...

Good as new! We were going to our friends' house to watch men and women pummel each other for sport and a decent amount of cash. Not my idea of fun but I knew I´d have a good time visiting with friends.

We picked up pizza on our way to our friends' house. We had a great time and were there for hours before heading home late.

Sunday morning we got up and went to church. Heard a great message and then Abby suggested that we stop at the Creamery- a coffee shop in Germantown. Abby and I had last been there in January after she and I helped to take down Christmas decorations at our church.

It was just as cute inside as we remembered, just this time with a spring vibe not a winter one.

The girls and Donnie got coffee drinks...

While I had a dirty soda- it was marshmallow fluff Coke Zero and it was delicious.

We had a really relaxing couple of hours before we left the house again. The weather was back to Ohio Perfect so we had to take advantage of that. We all went outside on the patio and read, dozed, laid out, etc. It was lovely but soon we had to go out.

It´s graduation szn! We are blessed to know many graduates this year. I picked out a card to bring to the grad party we were going to.

Aww, the graduate (in the white dress in the middle) I´ve known since before she was born!! At Alyssa´s first birthday party, Ashley (the graduate)´s mom told me she was expecting a baby! She kind of hoped it was a girl since she had a daughter who was close to Alyssa´s age. She did have a daughter and now 18 years later, she´s graduating high school.

The kids here are all neighbors and friends who´ve grown up together.

And we moms have been fortunate to have each other to lean on when watching said kids grow up! Thankful for these mama friends!

We came home and played outside while the guys watched game 7 of the Cavs/Pistons NBA play offs.

  1. That sounds like such a fun weekend! Kids always love any sort of school activity that involves candy/food. Yay for your last "true" Friday. You are so close to the end!! We saw signs galore for dirty soda in Utah and I was able to explain to my family what that was because of your blog. We don't have those up here in New England (at least not yet anyway).

  2. What a great weekend! I love how some of the students thanked you for the treat on Friday. Will you continue in this position in the fall, or are you done after this week? I love that your girls are home...I'm sure that feels great (for now, at least). I've had to readjust to having more than just me and Jonah in my house. I wondered if you felt the same? I hope you have a great day...happy last week for us both!

    1. For sure, it’s taking some getting used to but Abby is now gone and will be for most of the summer. Jacob will be moving out soon so it will just be Alyssa for most of the summer until college starts back up. So lots of changes here! I’m sure it was an adjustment to have one more son at home! I will not be doing this position in the fall. I’m hoping to do something besides subbing, tbh.

  3. The end is in sight-yay! You definitely got your soda fix this weekend : ) We need rain and I think it's supposed to happen this week. It seems like Memorial Day weather is always iffy, no matter where we live. I'm sure it was nice to have your girls home together too. Have a nice week!

  4. What a full weekend! I think I would like the marshmallow dirty soda. I am going to try to find a place. You have some super cute places near you. It sounds like you are soaking up the time with the girls and they are enjoying each other, too. I love that.
    Yes, it's grad season!
I am not into watching fights, either, but I like your cookie cake and your writing is so professional.

    1. Thanks. Amy! It’s all about the decorating tips- anyone can make a cake or cookie cake look close to store bought with a little practice. I would think your area would have dirty soda places. You have such cute bakeries and small restaurants.

  12. It looks like such a fun weekend with both of your girls. You went above and beyond with the M&M activity! I am jealous of how close things are in your town, and all the places you went just look charming. Coke with marshmallow fluff...yum! I would have selected the same thing! Happy Monday!
