CU Elite Invitational Tournament
The name of the tourney sounds more impressive than it is. It sounds like something you have to qualify for or are invited to if your team is really good. In reality, any team willing to pony up the $500.00 entry fee is good to go! Also, since it's a CU tournament, CU can require CU teams to be in it- further proof that the "elite" is in name mostly! Alyssa's team was not "required" to be in but choose to be in it.
The girls played well but when they fell to CUSA (darn CUSA!), they had no chance to win or even be in the finals. We played a total of four games and with the exception of the loss to CUSA (darn CUSA!), we won the games easily.
The girls played two games on Saturday and two games on Sunday- all of them at Posey Hartman field in Lebanon. For both days, there wasn't a whole lot of time between both games and one family whose daughter is on the team who lives in Lebanon, invited everyone on the team to their house in between games for lunch. Donnie and Alyssa took advantage of this on both days and rode with the Overdeck's (the family whose house they went to) to their house while I went home in between games (Jacob and Abby didn't want to go to the games and I couldn't justify leaving them alone for hours).
Regarding CUSA (darn CUSA!), it was the only game that Alyssa was really pumped up about and wanted to win badly. Unfortunately, it was the only game that we lost and I believe the only time that a team scored when Alyssa was playing defense. She doesn't let much of anything by her. In the two goals that were scored when she was playing defense in the CUSA game, the girl taking the shot made beautiful long angled shots. Alyssa, nor the other defender, nor the goalie, did anything flagrantly wrong. Sometimes, you just can't stop 'em. Alyssa played really well at defense. One team, Warren County United, we played two times. They didn't score on us at all in the first game. We won easily. In the second game, about half way through, Warren County had the ball on our side and several girls, including Alyssa, were near the ball. Somehow Alyssa tripped or fell and as soon as she did, the coach for the other team began shouting excitedly, "Now, now shoot now!" to the Warren County girl closest to the ball (she was not in a good position to shoot). I think he got excited when he saw that Alyssa was down because he had figured out how key she was to our defense. Alyssa down is good for the other team! Alyssa didn't stay down for long. She got up and our defense stopped the play. She played forward for a small amount of time in one game. She hung back and was not aggressive. Girlfriend just doesn't seem to care about scoring! She has made a name for herself on the team but it is for stopping the ball, not for getting it in the net.
In the first game, we played CU Southeast. We beat them easily 7-1.
Alyssa "got" to play goalie (she hates being goalie) in the first game when our lead was up.
The following pictures are from our two games against Warren County United. In the CUSA game, when the goals were scored against us when Alyssa was in defense, I lost all interest in taking photos! We lost to CUSA 5-1. In our first game against Warren County United, we won 4-0 and in the second game (to play for third place), we beat them 5-1.
