Share Four Somethings- April

Linking up with Jennifer for Share 4 Somethings

I blogged a little more than usual in April due to having surgery and subsequently being out of normal sorts with more time on my hands (I had to cancel numerous sub jobs that I had lined up for April and stay home instead). So some content of this monthly recap will be redundant; I will try my best to make it not a complete snooze fest!

Things loved:  I loved having a birthday land in the middle of a hard month. Cake, presents, people being extra kind to you- what is not to love? I got to enjoy not one, but two cakes, both of which were delicious and additional sweets that friends and family gave me. My friend Nicole brought me chocolate covered banana chips- something I had not so much as heard of, let alone tried.

That there are a few left in the container a week after she gave them to me is a testament to them not being my favorite. If I had my druthers, I would have chocolate over something savory, eg chocolate covered potato chips, nuts, or pretzels (Nicole also brought me chocolate covered pretzels so I did get to enjoy that- no pics because that container is long gone.). I’m also a fan of chocolate covered soft things that aren’t savory like chocolate covered gummy bears or raisins. The chocolate covered banana chips were good, don’t get me wrong and I’m glad that I got to try them!

I loved receiving thoughtful gifts. Jacob had told me that I’d receive something from him in the mail. When I opened this I assumed it was from him. Though the writing on the sticky paper was definitely not Jacob’s- I assumed when he ordered it, he’d requested a note be included with it. But what I couldn’t figure out was why he would purchase the game Guess Who for me.

When I looked closer, I figured it out- it’s an Office edition! Can’t wait to play it!

I loved getting a boot this week for my bad foot! I will likely write more about it next week because I have THOUGHTS! But for now, I am thrilled that I have both feet on terra firma. Sort of, I mean, my bad foot is encased in said boot but I can make movements with both of my legs/feet that approximate walking.

I loved seeing my aunt who came for the eclipse and my brother who is here with me now. I missed out on  a lot this month (and am missing out on going out of town this weekend) but am trying to focus on the positive, for which there was a lot!

Tried to improve on: mobility in less than ideal circumstances, namely a foot that couldn’t touch the ground for three and half weeks.

Accomplished: For three and a half weeks this month, if I moved from point A to point B, I did so on one foot/ leg. I kept off of my bad foot completely (that was in a cast) per the surgeon’s instructions. It was not easy, but with a lot of help from my “caregivers” Alyssa and Donnie, I got ‘er done.

These two were my rocks!

Alyssa- pictured late last month in Florida (glad we got that trip in!)

Donnie

Speaking of Alyssa, we got her graduation party date and location set. It will be by far the most expensive of the three kids’ graduation parties but also the easiest. (I guess that is always the trade off when you outsource a service- you pay more but have less work to do yourself).

Noticed- April’s topsy- turvy weather- The changes of spring from the colors to the temperature to the precipitation, almost entirely from inside the house… It’s easy to observe changes when you’re outside but it is very possible from inside the house as well. From hearing the patter of rain on windows, observing the growing buds on trees on our large front window as I slowly made my way down the stairs each morning, and feeling the change in temperature from inside the house as we needed the heat on then the AC on then the heat, etc. I witnessed April’s eclectic weather patterns and plant growth from my unique vantage point: almost entirely indoors.

  1. Yay for getting to put weight on 2 feet! I'm sure the boot is still less than ideal for walking but hopefully it will make life a bit easier for you and your helpers. Despite being laid up for so long it really does sound like you made the best of it and had a pretty good month. I am so glad!

    1. Thanks, Joanne! Yes, it was a good month overall in spite of the complete and utter oddness/ terribleness of not being able to walk for most of it. The boot is such an improvement because I can walk, albeit with a strange gait. I have ordered some shoes with a bit of platform for my good foot so that my legs are more of an even height.

  2. We've had crazy weather too with the AC one day and heat the next and lots of rain.

    1. Yes, that just seems to be how it is around here! Since my birthday is in April, I can easily remember the Aprils of past (at least the day of my birthday) and it´s funny because I have had my birthday weather that covers just about every season over the years- it has been cold on my birthday, hot, warm, rainy, beautiful, you name it!

  4. Chocolate covered gummy bears?!?! I'm pretty sure I'll take your banana chips. (Not a gummy anything fan....so that would certainly be a waste of good chocolate. ha!) Hooray for birthdays to break up a lot of couch warming...but an even bigger hooray for a boot. Here's to more healing in May and, hopefully, friends will continue to stop by. With or without new treats to try:)

    1. When I read the first line of your comment, I was thinking, ¨I need to convince her how good chocolate covered gummies are!¨ Then I read that you don´t like anything gummy. So yeah, it would be a waste of chocolate :). Oh yes, guests who bring sweets- please continue into May!!

  5. Ugh, that cannot be easy. I bet you are going stir-crazy not being as mobile as you would like. Let's hope May brings you more progress as you recover!

    1. Thanks, Jim! The boot is a game changer but I will be in the boot all of May so I will have the ability to walk (such as that is in a boot) but not drive. I am just trying to stay focused on the positive of the boot...

  6. Crazy weather has been everywhere it seems. I hope that your foot heals well and you regain full mobility. It is hard recovering from injury/surgery, but it sounds like you had the best helpers.

    1. Thank you, Cindy! I am looking forward to full mobility- realistically, it will not be soon, unfortunately. I feel fortunate, though, in many ways despite the hardship it has caused.

  8. Oh I know you are thankful to have a little more mobility. I am thankful you were able to be extra celebrated during a hard month with your birthday! I love that game! I am a big fan of The Office, so would love to hear what you think.

    1. Thank you, Marilyn! I have not played yet and have not played Guess Who in years! Jacob says he will play the game with me the next time he comes home :).

  9. April's weather could've been so much better- cold and rainy here but so happy to finally see blooms and have warmer temps just like you- yeah for the boot!

    1. May´s weather has got to better, right? Though we had lots of nice days especially towards the end. The boot is amazing and now it doesn´t even hurt to walk :).
