Morgan Wallen Concert
Morgan Wallen sings mostly country music- he has a crossover pop hit out right now that plays on non country music stations. But most of his music is quite country. Lots of twang in his voice and a lot of the lyrics are of the, "My lil' lady left me and, gosh, I miss her a lot" variety. Also, tequila and other spirits seem to be most helpful in the crisis of the lil' lady's departure from his life.
The girls aren't huge fans of his but they do like him and I know they wanted a concert experience together. Abby was listening to his music one day and casually mentioned that he'd be in Columbus that weekend. I asked her if she'd like to see him in concert and she answered with a he haw that she'd love to! (Kidding, she didn't say "he haw.") I didn't care to see/ hear him but I knew that Alyssa would like to. Sure enough, Alyssa said she'd love to go when I asked her if she'd like to go.
So as for the girls to not have to worry about driving to Columbus, finding the venue, finding a place to park and then driving the hour and half home late at night (and also because we're sort of kind of helicopter parents (at least in some regards)), we told the girls that we'd drive them to the concert and pick them up. That meant that we'd spend the night in Columbus. We'd drive the girls to the concert, then Donnie and I would be on our own until the concert ended and then we'd pick up the girls when the concert ended and we'd all go back to the hotel.
It all worked out... pretty well. Hotels very close to the venue were crazy expensive so we ended up staying in Dublin which was about twenty minutes away. We stayed at a Drury Inn. We hadn't stayed at a Drury in several years. I like staying at Drury Inns because there's a separate bedroom and then a living room with a pull out couch. (Also there's a soda machine in the lobby where soda is ALWAYS available.) We drove to our hotel, checked in and the girls finished getting ready.
The girls wanted to get to Ohio Stadium not necessarily when the doors opened but not too much later than that. Traffic was slow moving for several miles close to the stadium. We couldn't drop the girls off right in front of the stadium due to some streets being blocked off.
The weather forecast was very iffy. There was a good chance not just of rain but of thunderstorms. Thankfully, neither rain nor storms happened. It was humid and hot but much better than rain!
The girls liked the concert overall but not all parts of it. There were three opening acts. Morgan didn't come on to the stage until 9:15. The girls' seats weren't that great but there were huge screens they could look at. Abby and Alyssa were in the minority in that they weren't drinking alcohol. I mean, they aren't of age so it wasn't an option for them to purchase/partake nor do I think they wanted to (not that they'd tell me any different!) but it did make their experience different than those around them!
Since we were spending the night in Columbus, it would have been nice to explore the city the next day. I haven't been in Columbus in a while- as Ohio's capital and a pretty good sized city, there are plenty of things to do and sites to see that I know we would have enjoyed. But... Alyssa was scheduled to work in the early afternoon the following day so we had to get back for that. We had breakfast at the hotel and then packed up and left.
It was fun to do something different and to go out of town together even though it was for just one night and was a very quick trip.
Mama's kunktry kuties...
I just googled MW to verify that I had spelled his name correctly- you know, it could be "Wallan" or "Wallin" or whatnot. As soon as I typed in his name, different search requests with his name came up. One of them was about his hair cut so out of curiosity, I clicked on the search request. The girls mentioned that his hair was cut for this concert. I didn't realize that it was newsworthy that he had cut his hair, but... it was. He debuted his new 'do in Columbus and it received quite the buzz (no pun intended). Numerous publications from US Today to Rolling Stones to many others had articles about his haircut. Strange times that a country singer's haircut makes the news.

That sounds like a fun little weekend outing!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joanne! It was.
DeleteSo awesome- these girls are lucky to have such fun parents!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Holly! It was fun for all of us. We've not done much together this summer outside the home so this was a much enjoyed short getaway.
DeleteI was just going to say, "and today's big news is a country singer gets a haircut" and then you said it yourself!!? I will not add my commentary on that truth - lol!! Your girls are making quite a few memories this summer - fun!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jennifer! My son heard about "the haircut." I was teasing my son about his long((er) than normal) hair and asked if he'd heard that Morgan Wallen had cut his. Jacob responded that he'd heard that. Of course he had- it was big news apparently!!
