UPitP- May 18- May 22
Monday, May 18th- A rainy day and one where the girls asked if we could go to TJ Maxx to get some work out clothes. We drove to our nearest TJ's only to find out that they weren't open. There was a sign that said they'd be opening on the 21st. There's a Kohl's store within eye sight of the TJ Maxx and we saw cars in the parking lot which seemed like a good sign (although there were also cars in the TJ Maxx parking lot as many drove there like we did hoping to shop only to find out that TJ's wasn't open). We went to Kohl's and found out later it was the first day that they'd opened since the forced closure back in March. Retail stores had been permitted to open May 11; I erroneously assumed most stores, especially national chains, would have opened on May 11th or maybe a couple of days after that. Anyway, we got "lucky" I guess since we chose Monday and not the preceding week to try to shop. We also lucked out with sales- found some athletic shorts for $2.49! Dressing rooms weren't open so we couldn't try on anything. Later on in the day, Abby had mandatory dance practice via zoom. We began to discuss making vacation plans for later in the summer- we have our vacation destination narrowed down to the state but where within that state was a big unknown- let the research and conflicting opinions begin :).
Tuesday- May 19- Another rainy day although Alyssa and I managed to get our daily (well, most days) short run in before the downpour. Tuesday was the day to pick up items at the jr. high that had been in students' lockers. We drove up to the building and the principal handed us a bag with Alyssa's items in it. We ordered a yearbook on the spot- they were ready and at the school for pick up- I just had to go to a website to pay for the yearbook and then we got in the yearbook line to pick it up. Later, Alyssa had an orthodontist appointment. It was much like Jacob's dentist appointment- Alyssa had to wait in the car until she was told she could go inside.
Abby got her senior schedule of classes finalized and approved. All of her classes will give her college credit in addition to high school credit. She will be a college student and a high school student- pretty cool!
We also found out that dance studios can reopen on May 26th. Abby's studio won't open until early June. We don't know yet what the restrictions will mean for competition dance routines that consist of numerous dancers where being six feet apart simply isn't possible due to the finite size of stages.
Wednesday- May 20- The morning was a COLD one- temps were in the 40's. I had the fireplace on at one point because I was so cold. I ran a couple of errands. Our state's stay at home order was lifted- in its place, the governor is making "strong recommendations" to only go out when necessary. Almost all of the last of the businesses not permitted to be in business were given start dates. The biggest unknown is the school year. Nothing has been said about what the school year will look like or if colleges will have in person classes. Regarding colleges, many schools have said that they plan to have in person classes, including UC, so that was encouraging to hear.
Thursday- May 21- not much happened per my notes :). I had a library board meeting in the late afternoon and then I went to Walmart on my way home. This was the day that restaurants could resume seating patrons indoors to eat (patio dining had been permitted since the preceding weekend).
Friday- May 22-The girls and I went to TJ Maxx. It had opened on Thursday the 21st. Alyssa talked to one of her friends who waited an hour in line to get in to the store on the 21st. I think I would have left and come back because there's nothing in TJ Maxx that's worth that kind of wait (even in these times when free time is plentiful). We decided to go not to the TJ Maxx that's closest to us but rather to the one in Kettering because it's near a Trader Joe's and we wanted to stop in Trader Joe's, too. We arrived at the store shortly after it opened and were able to get in right away. Like Kohl's, dressing rooms weren't open so we had to wait until we were at home to try on things . All of their Easter decor was 75% off and there was a huge selection so... the house is gonna be extra for Easter this upcoming Easter and beyond. We waited in line for over twenty five minutes- check out lanes were far and few in between due to restrictions. When we exited the store, there was a line to get into the store. I'm glad we came when we did. We didn't end up going to Trader Joe's. We just wanted to get home after being in TJ Maxx for so long.
Friday was our anniversary. We will celebrate it with dinner out later in the summer. Just one day prior, indoor restaurant eating commenced after a sixty one day prohibition. I felt like I wanted to wait a little bit to resume eating in restaurants- not out of fear of the virus but rather I want the novelty of the opening of restaurants to be complete when we go out. So we had our typical Friday evening dinner: homemade pizza for the pizza eaters and pasta with veggies for the non pizza eaters. Later, Donnie and I watched a movie.

How cute is this lil' bag of goodies? It was included in an online order that Donnie placed with the company Sweetwater. Sweetwater, the company, has nothing to do with sweets or water but this little thank you is seemingly a play on the name of the company. How, dare I say, "sweet!" Sweetwater is a guitar store based out of Ft. Wayne, IN. Donnie plays a mean guitar and there is always some new accouterments that he has his eye on to enhance his playing experience. He ordered a couple of new things this week from Sweetwater and a little bag of sweeties was included in each order.
Running shorts for $2.49? SOLD!!

Baby, it's cold outside and definitely not late May weather (although temps would rise to the eighties in very shortly).
Our shopping cart at TJ Maxx- I took these pictures to send to my sister when bored standing in the LONG check out line. It looks like we just threw items into the cart :). I felt vaguely guilty for sending pictures to my sister in Canada- Canada is showing few signs of opening up and I didn't want my sister to feel bad that I was able to shop when she is prohibited from doing so. But, my sister and I send each other mundane pics of our day and I figured mostly she'd get a kick out of seeing our cart. Plus, there may be a thing or two for my sister in the cart.
