Memorial Day Weekend
Had a nice, low key Memorial Day weekend.
Saturday- Abby and I went to the grocery store in the morning. When we got back, Abby, Alyssa and I did some vacation destination investigation. We are particular about a few things when we stay places which both helps and hinders searches- some places are easily eliminated. However, we also had the entire state where we're planning to go as possible destination places so we had a lot of areas to look into. The day was a pretty one and after staring at our Chromebook screens for a while, Abby and I decided to take a walk. We walked into town and went almost five miles, round trip. We noticed that many of the stores on Main Street were open so of course we made our way into them to look around.
Saturday was the day that our school had a vehicle parade for high school graduates. Families were encouraged to decorate their vehicle and then drive around the school grounds with their graduate so that the graduates could see each other (all from their cars) and wave. (There will be no formal graduation ceremony for the graduates.) After the parade, many of the graduates headed to downtown Springboro in their caps and gowns for pictures. Abby and I saw a number of them on our walk. I told Abby to be prepared for something like that for her next year if Covid- 20 is on the scene (or heaven forbid Covid-19 is still impacting the way we interact).
We didn't do too much the rest of the day. Spent some time outside with the neighbors. It's nice to be in regular contact with neighbor friends again :).
Sunday- We got up and watched our church service online. Then I drove to downtown Springboro to buy some flowers from a man who was selling flowers from his backyard (it is a business, it's just in his backyard). Abby and I encountered the flowers for sale when we walked in Springboro on Saturday. However, I couldn't buy any then since we were walking and already had a package. I knew I'd come back for them which is what I did.
We had plans to go to Clifton Gorge as a family on Sunday afternoon when Jacob got off of work. Shortly after he came home, friends of his texted and asked if he'd go "cliff diving" with them. Well, Jacob never wants to turn down an offer to cliff dive and so he beggggggged me to postpone our trip to Clifton Gorge until Monday morning (there really are no "cliffs" proper near us, nor do the boys actually dive. They jump (they don't dive) from a somewhat elevated point into a creek that Jacob claims is 30 feet deep).
Monday- we went to Clifton Gorge in the morning. It was even more pretty with more greenery since the girls and I had been there in April. Since we'd had a decent bit of rain recently, the waterfall was pretty and the Little Miami was gushing. The path was wet and the rocks were slippery. I fell once and almost fell a second time. It was still worth it (easy to say since I wasn't hurt very much...). We couldn't stay for long since Jacob had work in the afternoon. We spent the rest of the day relaxing.
These cuties joined us for s'mores in our neighbor's back yard on Sunday. I hadn't seen Autumn since the pandemic began. It was good to see her and get to chat with her a little bit. (Picture not taken on Sunday- this was taken professionally when Autumn's family had pictures taken.)
I brought this little fountain home with me on Saturday. I bought it at one of the shops in Springboro when Abby and I made our way through downtown. The little birdie is a sparrow. That reminds me of the hymn, "His Eye is on the Sparrow" that we sang at the church I grew up in and it reminds me of my mom who loved birds. I thought it was a fitting purchase on Memorial Day weekend. The sound of the water sounds pretty identical to a faucet that's been left on so some members of the family are not fans of it. But I am.

Monday was a beautiful day except for the twenty minutes that it rained hard. The rain was good for my garden plants and flowers so I didn't mind one bit.
