Soccer Event- training session with Sam Mewis
Alyssa's soccer club had an event on Friday evening that entailed training with Sam Mewis. Sam Mewis is a professional soccer player who is also on the US women's national soccer team. The event was for all CUP girls players in the 05 & O6 birth years.
It started at 5:00 pm at Seven Hills School in Cincinnati. Alyssa doesn't get home from school until 4:00 pm and she didn't want me to pick her up early from school because her school's Halloween party was on Friday during the last part of the day. So, as soon as she came home from school it was off with her Rey costume and into soccer gear, snack consumed, hair redone and pottying all in 10 minutes. We were in the car by 4:11- not bad!! We took her soccer teammate Morgan with us. Donnie came home from work in time to go, too.
The event was held on Seven Hills' turf soccer fields. The girls did some drills as a group and then Sam talked to all of the girls for a while. She talked about her youth soccer training and about playing professionally. Then the girls broke into smaller groups. The two age group separated. Alyssa's age group played some street style soccer. Sam walked around to the various groups that were playing and spent some time observing them. After that, the girls posed for pictures with Sam and then did some drills.
We enjoyed the evening although it was long considering the drive to and from Seven Hills. The weather was perfect. Alyssa didn't get to personally meet Sam (although she did get Sam to sign her ball at the very end) but she enjoyed the soccer activities and having Sam nearby. Alyssa was glad that Morgan came with us. A longish stop at the McDonald's in Lebanon on our way home contributed to our four hour long Friday evening activity!!
I brought my camera and got some good pictures. Unfortunately, I was too far away during the street soccer that Alyssa played with Sam was nearby. I took pictures but the quality isn't great.
In the beginning of the session drill- the conclusion of one drill consisted of some of the girls on the backs of other girls (Alyssa can be spotted in all the pictures in her ubiquitous pink headband (that is getting too stretched out)).

We parents were sitting in bleachers facing the field (obviously). Sam was facing us because she was facing the girls who were on the ground in front of her.

Unfortunately, her group was in the furthest area from where we were sitting so the pictures aren't great. Also, there are two girls with pink headbands in these next few pictures. The other girl with a pink hand band has longer hair than Alyssa does and the other girl is wearing a pink pinny.

The name for the school, Seven Hills, is geographically spot on- the girls on our way back to the car with the turf field in the back ground.
Sam signed a copy of a picture of her for each girl prior to the event. The girls each received one of these.
