Fourteen
Abby turned 14 yesterday. She has a year of being a teenage under her belt and thankfully, a year and a half before we start to worry think about her driving. I'm looking forward to another year of the "early teen years." No real worries about the future beyond high school- college and career seem like a long way away.
Here is a little bit about Abby at age 14 and how her birthday was for her.
Abby has really gotten into Star Wars in the past year. She hadn't seen a single SW movies until her music and film teacher in the spring of her 7th grade year offered the kids extra credit if they watched a Star Wars movie. Abby watched the movie (I can't remember if it was a particular movie they needed to watch for extra credit or not) and then wanted to watch all of them. Donnie loves the SW movies as does Alyssa. I guess it was natural or inevitable that Abby would love them, too. Abby and Alyssa play SW when they have a lot of free time. Last Friday, the kids had the day off of school. The girls got dressed up in their Star Wars gear (Alyssa has a Rey costume while Abby has constructed her own Kylo Ren outfit) and took some video of them doing a scene.
Abby has been sewing with her sewing machine lately. I'm so glad she still loves to craft (she loved crafts of any nature when she was younger). Right now she's working on a dress. It's a dress with two pieces- some sort of Star Wars character dress. She sewed a zipper onto it, attempted to use elastic (she had some problems with this), is hand embroidering a design on the front- so far it looks great. Best of all, she's used her own money to buy the material and necessary sewing pieces for it.
Her spending money has come from reffing soccer. She does NOT like to ref soccer but she loves having spending money. She does a good job reffing and I'm hoping she's learning responsibility out there on the soccer fields. Much to her (and Jacob's) delight, the rec soccer league for which they ref will be ending soon.
Abby is a homebody. She has plenty of friends at school and occasionally gets together with them outside of school. But her favorite place to be is at home and her best friend, Alyssa, resides at home so why would she want to be elsewhere?
She doesn't like school at all- not the homework, not most of the kids at school, but she does well in school and is well liked by her teachers. She's taking French right now in 8th grade but she's taking it as a high school class since she took French in 7th grade. That means that the grade she receives this year in 8th grade will count as a high school grade for her GPA and will be on her transcript. So far, fingers crossed, she has a high A in the class. Let's hope that continues. When I was at her school for an open house earlier this year, I met her French teacher. Her teacher had wonderful things to say about Abby :). I subbed one time this year for half a day in the 6th grade building for the math teacher that Abby had in 6th grade. When I told him my name, he asked me if I had a daughter named Abby. When I told him that she was my daughter, he was very curious to know if she still liked WWE (she still does). He told me they used to talk a lot about WWE when she was in his class (he likes WWE) and he was wondering what she thought about some new aspect of it. He said he'd love to talk to her about WWE. He told me multiple times to tell her "Hello" from him.
Her birthday was yesterday- not a great day, schedule wise for her birthday to fall. She had school all day, a little bit of time at home, and then dance for 3 1/2 hours. Her dance friends threw her a surprise balloon and sign party which she loved... she literally started crying when she saw what they'd done for her. So sweet! After dance was over and we were all at home, we ate a cookie cake that I made that day, sang to Abby, and let her open a couple of presents from us. She'll open the remainder of the presents we have for her when we celebrate her birthday with extended family this weekend.
Happy Birthday, BeanBoo- love you to the moon and back!!
So tiny! (Abby not Donnie!!)
With Aunt Denise. Almost always sleepy...
except when she wasn't...
Sorry it's not rotated... with big brother
Ok, skipping many years and in random order (mainly because if I started going through photos of Abby on my computer (which probably numbers 10,000, I'd get sucked into looking at all the pictures and spending too much time- so I just took pictures of pictures)
Sisters and friends for as long as either can remember...
The doll that started it all... Julie. Abby got her five years ago on her birthday
Sisters so sweet...
...and occasionally not!
One of these two was excited about being a flower girl at Mark and Cindy's wedding- the picture below holds a clue :)
