Busy Weekend- Soccer games! Dance practices! Homecoming! Abby's birthday celebration!

This past weekend was a busy one- two soccer games, two dance practices, two homecoming events (shopping for hoco clothes and the hoco dance), and two desserts made for one special birthday celebration.

Alyssa had a soccer game Saturday morning at 9:00 am in Kentucky. We let Jacob and Abby not ref soccer Saturday morning since both Donnie and I were going to Alyssa's game. Jacob and Abby were ecstatic to have a break from their reffing duties (you'd think they were retiring from a job they'd gone to five days a week for 30 years rather than miss a once a week gig that had only been going on for six weeks and that was going to end in one week anyway).

After returning home from Alyssa's game, Donnie and the teens headed to Prodigy to get a work out complete. Shortly after they returned home from Prodigy, Donnie and Jacob went to the mall to go hoco clothes shopping. While they were gone shopping, Alyssa and I went to Drug Mart to get a couple of items that she will need for Camp Kern.  When we got home, I decorated Abby's birthday cake and made magic bars. Abby's cake turned out cute (if I do say so myself). She didn't specify what she wanted her cake to look like but said she'd like a Star Wars theme one. I looked online to find the easiest looking SW cake to decorate and found one that was easy to duplicate.

I took a dressed up, snazzy looking Jacob to Yankee Trace Golf Club at 6:30 to meet up with his hoco group to get pictures taken. There were 12 or so guys in his group. Jacob assured me that he had rides lined from Yankee Trace to the restaurant where they were eating (Chappy's) to the high school for the dance to a friend's house afterword but he never actually fleshed out who was going to be doing this driving. The parents who were at Yankee Trace for the picture taking worked out these details. I offered to drive anywhere but people with vehicles larger than mine ended up getting the chauffeuring gigs :). I drove one of the moms, Wendy, to Chappy's from Yankee Trace because her husband had a van full of boys in their van. I stayed at Chappy's with some of the moms from the group for a while before heading home.

All of the boys in Jacob's group were invited back to one boy's house, Carter, for a sleepover. We know Carter's family fairly well and like and trust them. If we were going to let Jacob sleep over anywhere, this would be a house where we'd let him do it. However, we'd already decided that we didn't want Jacob to spend the night anywhere. Jacob REALLY wanted to spend the night but we didn't let him. I let him go to Carter's for a little while after the dance but then picked him up at midnight.

Sunday morning entailed rousing three very sleepy kids up early to make it to the 9:30 church service. Jacob was particularly indignant. Missing a sleepover after hoco, being awakened at a little past 8:00 AM to go to church the next day- what had he done to deserve this?? Shortly after we arrived home from church, Donnie and Alyssa left for Alyssa's soccer game which was a home game- just 25 minutes or so from home. I went to the game, too, but I left later since Alyssa had to be at the field 45 minutes before the game started. I got Abby to her first dance practice of the day, arranged for a ride for her for the way home since I was heading to Lebanon for Alyssa's game. After Alyssa's game (I wrote about her weekend games in the post just prior to this one), Donnie and Alyssa drove to a nearby outlet mall to get new Converse shoes for Alyssa. While they were shopping, I tidied up the house to ready it for company that was coming over later in the evening. At five I dropped Abby off for her second dance practice of the day and when I picked her up an hour later, we picked up dinner to take home and all eat together.

At 7:00 pm, Donnie's family came over to celebrate Abby's birthday. We visited, had cake, and Abby opened presents. It was a nice end to a hectic but good weekend.

There was some downtime (not a whole lot!) over the course of the weekend. Alyssa and I worked on this puzzle during some downtime.

Soda and puzzle piece piles- we weren't messing around!! This puzzle will likely be on our dining room table unfinished for a long time. This week is/ will be super busy...
