Soccer Saturday
Alyssa played in two (indoor) soccer games on Saturday. She had one scheduled game Saturday afternoon in the winter league that her team has been playing in at Wall 2 Wall since January. Late last week, her soccer coach sent out an email to the team asking if some girls were available to play in a girls' U10 soccer match Saturday morning at Wall 2 Wall. Alyssa was available but neither Donnie nor I were. Donnie had a board meeting at work Saturday morning and Abby was playing her flute at the Springboro Hometown Expo Saturday morning (which I had to taker her to) so we couldn't get Alyssa to the game. I'd probably have sent Alyssa's coach an email stating that Alyssa wasn't available to play. Super soccer dad Donnie, however, was not going to let an opportunity to play more soccer pass Alyssa up :-). Donnie arranged for his dad (Uncle Doug came too) to pick Alyssa up from our house Saturday morning and take her to Mason. As soon as his board meeting was done, Donnie headed from Dayton to near Cincinnati to see as much of the game as he could. The team that Alyssa played on (CU Mason's top girls U10 team) won 2-1. Alyssa played forward for a bit (shocking as she virtually never plays that position) and almost scored! She hit the ball hard to the goalie who made a good stop. Rats!
After the first indoor game, most of the families on Alyssa's soccer team hung out together between games rather than go home after the first one. They all had lunch together at Marion's before heading back to Wall 2 Wall for their girls' U9 game. Abby and I drove to Mason (well, I drove) after Abby's band performance to see the second game. The girls were playing a U8 boys team whom they'd tied before. This team of boys is fast and very good. I was dismayed when I saw that Alyssa was starting out in goal. Her team needed her speed on defense. Sure enough, the boys quickly got past everyone on the team, including defenders and Alyssa was scored twice on in goal. Alyssa was really upset that she was scored on in goal and when she went back into the game as defender, she didn't play so well at first. We actually were down 0-5 with about 20 minutes left in the game. It was not looking good. But then we started connecting and started making goals (the opposing team's goalies were very good. We'd had multiple shot attempts that didn't make it into the goal for awhile). We went up 6-5! It was an amazing come back:). I think the boys thought they had the game in the bag when they went up five goals on us. The boys made one more goal to tie the game up at 6-6. We were glad for the tie, though, since it look like we were going to lose for most of the game!
My pictures did not turn out so good. Indoor facilities + movement = not good pictures. But, these are all that I have to document Alyssa's two soccer game Saturday so they'll have to do :-)
