1st Soccer tourney of season
Alyssa's soccer team played its first tournament of the season this past weekend. They played in the Cincinnati Elite Spring Thaw Tournament. Alyssa had a game on Friday evening (unusual... she's never had a Friday game), then a game on Saturday morning, then one on Sunday and if they made it to the final, that would be played Sunday afternoon.
When we saw the schedule, we were sad to see that to advance to the final game, we'd have to play the only team that our team has never beaten, CSA. That game was scheduled to be played Sunday morning. Donnie figured that we'd easily win our first two games but wouldn't be able to beat CSA. That turned out to be partially true!
The good news for me was that, despite this weekend being a dance competition weekend, I was able to make it to the Friday game. Abby's dance schedule was such that we didn't have to leave our house until early Saturday morning to make it to Columbus in time for Abby's first dance routine. I had to pull Alyssa out of school early on Friday so that she could be to the site half an hour before the 5:30 game time. The bad news was that it was raining the entire game so it was not comfortable to watch (and I didn't dare take any pictures because I didn't want anything to happen to my camera) AND, Alyssa's team lost the game.
Alyssa's team did not play well at all in the Friday game. Alyssa made a mistake on defense that she rarely if ever makes which led to a goal. Our forwards had numerous chances to score and the ball just didn't make it into the net. We ended up losing 0-2. It was a let down because we know that we are a better than the team that beat us, Kings Hammer. The loss also effectively meant that we wouldn't make it to the final game.
I didn't see her Saturday morning game against HFC but we won easily, 10-1. Sunday we had to face CFA. We lost (not surprisingly) but it wasn't by much- it was 0-1. Donnie said that Alyssa played great. She played the entire game.
So that was Alyssa's first soccer tournament of the year. Let's hope the next three go a little bit (or a lot bit) better than this one!
After the Friday game, many of the girls and their families, including us, went to BDubs to eat dinner. It took forever for our food to arrive as the restaurant was packed. We didn't get home until after nine. That was a long time to be gone (we'd left he house at 3:30) especially since Abby and I were leaving early the next morning and Jacob and Abby didn't go to the game with us. So they were by themselves for a long time (albeit with friends but still we were gone from them for a long time which isn't ideal).
After Saturday's soccer game, Donnie and Alyssa did a little shopping at the mall and soccer store that's near the mall. Alyssa picked up a few items :-). Alyssa had a play date with one of her soccer teammates later in the day. Jacob saw a movie with friends on Saturday. While it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it does take a village to ensure that the kids have a good time when all three kids have different interests and parents are each with a different child. I'm grateful that AJ's dad took Jacob and AJ to the movies. Jacob had sleepovers on both Friday and Saturday nights. So his weekend was spent pretty much how he likes it- with friends!!
