Buzzer beater shot
Jacob's Kingdom basketball team had its final game on Monday night. It was a make up for a game that was canceled due to bad weather a couple of Saturdays ago. Jacob's team was trailing by two with possession of the ball with not much time on the clock. Jacob and his teammates Spencer and Tyler were passing the ball to each other on the perimeter when Jacob found himself with ball and only two seconds left on the clock. He threw the ball towards the hoop. It was an ugly shot. But, a shot that went into the hoop. Jacob's three pointer won his team the game!!
Unfortunately, neither Donnie nor I was there to see the game. With Alyssa having soccer in Mason and Abby having dance on Monday nights, it was going to be tough for us to get Jacob to his game. Donnie asked his dad if he would take Jacob to his game. We were grateful that Donnie's dad was willing to help out and was available. He goes to all of the kids' games- so long as UD isn't playing basketball in Dayton, in which case you will find him at UD Arena :).
So Donnie and I found out about Jacob's game winning shot from someone else. Jacob sounded very pleased when he told me the details. It was a great way to end the basketball season. I think that Jacob has had one other buzzer beater in his years of playing basketball but I may be "conflating" a la Brian Williams and just think that maybe it happened once before. This buzzer beater happened for sure and I'm documenting it so that I'll never conflate this memory!
I only took a few photos this entire basketball season. I never brought my Nikon to a game. Jacob would have been embarrassed to have me take pictures. So I snuck a few pictures with my phone during a game last Tuesday. Being a camera phone, I knew I'd get no good shots if players were moving so I took a few pictures when Jacob was at the foul line.

In the second half of the game, I was sitting closer to our free throw line. Just as I took this photo, Mr. Miller (number 4 on Lebanon's team) decides to move his arm up just enough to cover Jacob's face in my photo. Not cool, Mr. Miller. Didn't you know I wanted a picture of my boy??
