2nd Dance Competition of the season
Dance competitions don't get much better than this past weekend's one. Abby and her dance team competed at Imagine Dance Competition.
Here are the highlights of why it was so good:
1. It was local- yeah! No long drives. It was held at West Carrollton High School which is a fifteen minute drive from our house.
2. It was small- yeah! The fewer the routines that are in a competition, the shorter the whole competition is. It turned out that this was a ONE day competition. Also, the fewer the routines that are in a competition, the less competition you have. Less competition is always better than more!
3. Abby did AWESOME! Having fewer competitors certainly helped her in the overall, but her scores on her solos were really good and that is independent of how many other competitors there are. She received a perfect score in her musical theater solo and the next closest in her modern solo. She came in 1st overall in her age and division (the highest division). She was one of four soloists to be asked to perform at a dance intensive this summer and she was the only one of the four who were invited to dance at the intensive to receive a $250.00 scholarship to it. She was in her element there, that's for sure! The group routines she was in did well, too. Her group's lyrical routine scored a perfect score and came in 1st overall for the age group and division (second highest division).
4. Abby won a Title! Title is something that the highest scoring solo routine wins, provided you enter the solo into Title consideration. We did that for Abby's musical theater solo because Abby wanted to win Title very badly! She only was up against one other girl, but she prevailed. She was very excited about winning it.
Being a local competition, some of our family members were able to come and see part of the competition (and not have to be super inconvenienced to do so). Abby's grandpa Don and step grandma Donetta, and great Uncle Doug arrived in time to see all of the group routines that Abby was in. They left for a bit after the group routines and came back to see Abby's solos. Grandma Bev came to see Abby's solos and Donnie himself was able to come and see some of the competition. Donnie had a work meeting that he absolutely could not miss on Saturday morning so he didn't get to see all of the routines. It was great to see so many familiar faces at the competition.
We were done by about 4:30 on Saturday. We went out to dinner with some of the girls and their moms to Bravo. We'd not eaten a meal all day (just snacks) and were very hungry. We tore into the bread when it came to our table. Hanna invited all of the older dance girls to her house for a sleepover. After we arrived home, Abby showered and then I took her to Hanna's. It was a great day to be a Rineer dancer!

Abby and Arianna were one of four soloists to receiver Power Pak invitations
Then the MC announced that Abby had won a $250 scholarship to attend Power Pak.
Next, Abby was named Miss Teen Imagine. She received a tiara that she's wearing, a large plaque and a bag that contained a jacket and water bottle.
