A Chelsea weekend
Alyssa spent almost the whole weekend with her soccer teammate Chelsea. It's a good thing they get along so well. It's also probably a good thing that they don't live in the same town so getting to spend so much time together outside of soccer is not something that happens often. That made the weekend more special for them :). Here's how/ why it happened.
First of all, Chelsea's dad Bill was celebrating a "big" birthday Friday night at a restaurant in Mason. Donnie and Alyssa wanted to go to it. That set the scene for the girls to be together Friday night.
The girls' soccer coach had set up a scrimmage Saturday morning outdoors in Mason. Keep in mind that the kids had a two hour delay from school on Thursday because of snow. Wednesday evening, our area and south of us (i.e. Mason) received several inches of snow. It had not melted by Saturday. Alyssa's coach sent out an email asking for volunteers to shovel snow out of the goals. I'm thinking I would have sent out an email canceling the scrimmage but that's just me. Anyway, the scrimmage was set and Alyssa didn't have a way to get to the scrimmage. Donnie had a work meeting that he couldn't miss and I had to be with Abby at the Imagine dance competition Saturday morning. That left Alyssa needing a way to get to her snowy soccer scrimmage.
Then Donnie realized that he and Alyssa would be seeing Chelsea's family on Friday night at Bill's birthday celebration; he asked Chelsea's family if Alyssa could spend the night with them and then they could bring Alyssa to the scrimmage. They agreed to do so and said they'd keep Alyssa longer and bring her to the team's indoor game later in the day at Mason. When Donnie arrived in Mason for the indoor game, Chelsea's mom asked if we could keep Chelsea for them overnight since they had a lot going on with their other kids. Of course Donnie said that was fine. Chelsea and Alyssa came back to our house after the indoor game and then Donnie brought Chelsea back to meet up with her parents when it was time for Sunday evening training at Beacon.
Alyssa and Chelsea got along great (at least while they were here). On Saturday evening, they went to eat Chinese with Donnie (I was still with Abby at the dance competition). They then went to Drug Mart where Donnie bought them snacks and ice cream. Saturday evening, the girls watched a movie on Netflix before going to bed. Sunday morning, we all went to church. After that, the girls played inside and outside some (the weather finally took a turn from the cold and really started to warm up).
I only have one picture of them from the weekend. It was when Donnie was about ready to take them to soccer on Sunday in the late afternoon. I asked them to pose for me as a pictorial reminder of their weekend spent together!
