Friday 5.5

Had a pretty good, quiet week.

1. Good meals? Not a lot to report, unfortunately. I didn't realize until later on Sunday that I was subbing on Monday (I am usually pretty good about accurately remembering my sub schedule for the following week. I realize my memory is quite fallible so I always check. My incorrect thought (prior to checking) was that I wasn't subbing on Monday so I planned to go to the store on Monday). I could have gone grocery shopping after school on Monday but that sounded horrific so I winged Monday's meal (it is great to be an "over shopper" for times such as these) which wasn't the best but no one complained. I did make nachos per Donnie's request on Tuesday. I made my homemade queso which I have to say is pretty amazing. (I didn't come up with the recipe so I don't feel like I'm bragging 🤭 ). Wednesday I also had to wing it when I realized that I didn't have something I needed for the cashew chicken I planned on making. You win some you lost some…

2. Sub stories- I subbed on Monday as forementioned. The day was fine. The teacher's plan period was second block and I was thisclose to having that plan period all to myself- to not having to cover. With five minutes left of first block, the phone in my classroom rang. I wasn't worried when I saw it was the principal on the line. She was probably calling to ask a student to come down to her office. Nope. It was for me. She needed me to cover a class in second block as a teacher had to leave unexpectedly. I went to the classroom for second block and the teacher who had covered first block assured me that it was an easy lesson plan. Math review. Not super easy as it turned out. The students in my block were a little higher needs when it came to math so I ended up "doing math" (via helping the students with their review) the entire class period. It wasn't terrible but it... wasn't reading my Kindle by myself in a classroom either :). The teacher who had to leave texted me to see if I could sub for her on Tuesday. Math. That was an easy no!! Just did not feel like mathin' with middle schoolers for an entire school day. Plus I had to go to the grocery store...

3. My grocery store run included Walmart and Aldi. Walmart has become my go-to for pop buying. Aldi does not carry Dr. Pepper Zero so it's to a store that sells it I go! Kroger's prices for pop are way more than Walmart's and unfortunately, I go through a lot of pop so I have to go to Walmart every so often. I don't typically shop for clothes at Wal-mart- not out of snobbiness, I am just not in the habit of looking for clothes there. While at the store, there was a rack with clearance clothes and I let my eye slide to the items on the rack to take them in. I saw a shirt that I decided to buy. It was $7 but more importantly, it seemed like the color of a shirt that I've been wanting to replace. I have a shirt in my closet that I've had for years. I wear it occasionally, but I feel like it's starting to show its age. I like the color of it and the color of the one at Walmart seemed to be a similar color. I bought the shirt and then compared the two shirts. Pretty close in color!

The shirt on top is the one I just bought. The one below it is my old one.

I'm wearing the shirt (the one that's underneath the shirt I just bought in the above photo) in 2012 at the American Girl doll store in Chicago

4. Mankind's incredible inventions and technological advances are truly remarkable. But sometimes "we" (collectively as a specie) get it wrong. Playing fiddle faddle with clocks two times a year is one area where we've gotten it wrong. Nothing will convince me otherwise. My sleep has been extra wonky this week and while I certainly can't blame DST for waking up at 1:00 am on Sunday (or was it 12:00 am- is that when time "magically" goes away?) and staying awake for the next several hours, I do blame it for some of my sleep issues this week :(.

5. When I heard Donnie exclaim, "What on earth is that?" when in the family room I knew exactly what he was asking about.

I needed to soak my pea seeds overnight before planting them. I was going to put them in water in one of our very shallow kitchen dishes but then I noticed my bunny Easter candy dish was empty and I thought it would make a different and ironic holder of soaking peas. See, the rabbits always eat my pea leaves. This year, I am planning pea seeds in containers and hope that the bunnies won't/can't jump up to eat the leaves.

5.5. On Thursday, I gassed up the car ($$, grrrrr) and headed north to Columbus. Time to bring LyssByss home for spring break. Speaking of a break, I'll (hopefully) catch up with blogland towards the end of March. As the kids say, "Byeeeee."

  1. I don't blame you for not wanting to "math" with middle schoolers all day long! I would have said no to that as well. I know you love being able to pick and choose your days. I laughed over the story of Donnie asking what the pea pods were! I know you'll be glad to ese Alyssa!

    1. Thanks, Jenn! Yes, too many rough days in math recently... It's very nice to say no thank you to a day of that!!

  2. Good for you for saying "NO". I bet you were kind of playing catch up all week between the sleep schedule and the Monday.
Yay for spring break with your girl!
Walmart's clothes can be pretty darn good and another blogger said to me this week: "Fast fashion isn't fast anymore if you keep the item for several years". Mind blown!
I will be excited to see what you did over spring break. Come back soon!

    1. Thanks, Amy! That is a really good point about fast fashion! I have quite a few pieces of clothes that I've had for years. Many of these are dressier pieces that I just don't wear often but I do occasionally (and when you don't wear them often it kinda feels like you're wearing something new when you do wear them :)).

    1. Thanks, Holly! I like the color- it's a bit different but I think it looks good with black slacks and even khakis or jeans.

  5. Ha, I may have asked about the peas too! I often find clothes at Walmart, although I don't usually go in there with that intent. Have a good weekend & yay for spring break with your girl!

  6. I never think to look for clothing at Walmart either but every now and then something catches my eye. I still feel like my sleep is messed up; I even took a nap one day this week and I hardly ever nap.

    1. Ugh! I feel like I'm slowly starting to feel normal- it seems like every year it takes right around a week. Just annoying!

  7. Ahh! I always have something in the freezer for days when my meal planning goes off track.
It sounds like a hectic day subbing and I like the look of the top that you bought. Your old one has served you well.
I still have the clocks changing to look forward to. Ours change on the last Sunday of the month.
hehehe! The peas soaking in the Easter candy dish did make me chuckle. Good luck with growing them.
Have a lovely time with Alyssa and a great spring break!!

    1. How interesting that we are on a different clock changing time from you guys. Thanks about the peas and having fun on spring break. We're crossing our fingers that the trip happens...

  8. Enjoy your spring break! Did the Walmart top work out? I am very hit or miss with them…I do seem to collect a lot of their workout wear. Good luck with the pea seeds – I think that is something that I would enjoy growing. I would jump at a chance to teach math, one way we are exact opposites ;)

    1. Thanks, Jenni! We hope to travel soon... The Walmart top did work out! I've already worn it :). Put some pea seeds in a planter... you never know. You just may end up with a pea plant or two!! I honestly think I could teach math and not dislike it. But subbing for math is different. You haven't been around to hear the lessons so even if you know how to do the problems (hopefully!!) you haven't heard how the teacher has taught it so it can be challenging to help students, especially students who really struggle with math.

  9. Ha... I love the pea seeds soaking in the bunny dish.

I am currently soaking sweet pea seeds.
    Enjoy your spring break!

  10. Love the new shirt! Mathing with middle schooler all day sounds like my nightmare. That is a very ironic vessel for your pea soaking!! I hope the bunny blesses them and keeps the real ones away. Have a fun break!

  12. Thanks, Joyce! That's interesting about the rabbits. We have many rabbits here. I'll bet you had them in NJ. I couldn't believe how many deer I saw in NJ and this was in a town close to NYC...
