Weekending- Memorial Day

We had a nice, relaxing Memorial Day weekend! 

Saturday morning dawned early.  I ran, came back home, showered, and was able to fall back to sleep for a short time. It was a great feeling to fall back to sleep after having woken up early (it's the little things like knowing I won't feel cranky/ tired the rest of the day!). When Abby woke up, she and I went on a long walk into town. I needed a card so we walked to the nearest store that sold cards. 

Later in the day we went to our friend's house for a graduation party. We stayed for hours and had a great time seeing friends and some of our friends' families who were at the party. We came home before it was too dark and went on another walk (lots of exercise this day for which I'm thankful the weather and the body permitted ;)).

How amazing is this tree? I want one just like it but cannot justify buying another large "thing" that I don't need!! My friend is going to keep this up and decorated all year for the various holidays.

Nicole and a few of the guests there all graduated from the same high school so Nicole got her yearbook out from her senior year which was Donnie's junior year. Awww, he was so cute! And he looks like Alyssa with an Adam's apple and short hair. 

Sunday morning entailed a run and then getting ready for church. We drove two cars since Alyssa was on track to return from Lake Norris in Tennessee around the time that church would end and one of us would need to pick her up from her friend's house. I wanted to get her from her friend's house as soon as they arrived at the house so I tracked her location on my phone.  I scooted out of church before the last hymn and the timing worked out well to get her. Alyssa had a great time in Tennessee. The family rented a large home on the lake with several family members. Two of the family members staying there had boats so they were in the water a lot, tubing and water skiing. They rented jet skies which Alyssa did not want to drive though she went on a jet ski ride.  I'm grateful she was invited to this fun outing. 

Sunday morning breakfast- Nicole sent me home with cake. I don't always eat cake for breakfast but when I do, I take a picture of it and send it to Nicole!!

Alyssa's boyfriend came over and all of us went on a picnic to nearby Caesar Creek State Park for dinner. We ate at  Pioneer Village. There's a really pretty hiking trail that starts just off the grounds of the village. I wanted to go on the hike but I failed to mention that to Alyssa and didn't notice the shoes she was wearing when we left the house- they were not shoes to hike in at all. So no hike but an enjoyable time at Caesar Creek anyway.

Monday morning we hung out at the house for a while- I did some outdoor chores and then we went to our neighborhood pool. Donnie and I couldn't believe how many families were there with young kids. We didn't know any of the families. It seems like it wasn't that long ago that it was our kids who were running around with water wings on and having a ball jumping into the pool. The one bad thing (besides feeling old, lol) was that one group of adults and their young kids had music playing blasting from a speaker. On the one hand, I get it- it's a holiday weekend, good times, etc. But on the other hand, OTHER PEOPLE. Why would you assume others have the same taste in music and desire to hear said music loudly? If you want to hear music that desperately at the pool, wear ear buds. I was feeling old and crotchety about being annoyed by it but when Alyssa arrived home from the pool she brought it up and said she couldn't believe how inconsiderate it was. So, not just an old issue then!! If I had more nerve (/ was more passive aggressive), I'd bring a speaker to the pool and start playing Beethoven's 5th loudly when someone started playing his or her music. 

Later in the day, we drove down to meet Jacob for an early dinner and to do some shopping. We met at Kenwood Mall which has a Cheesecake Factory and lots of stores. After a bit of a disappointing meal (under-cooked, not hot fries, very slow service), we did some shopping and got some good deals.

Love all of the clothes that the girls and I got at Rose & Remington- such cute pieces...

Overall, the weekend was a good respite from the norm (Monday anyway). Thankful for men and women who serve currently and who serve. My uncle who died last week served in Korea and Donnie's grandpas were both in WWII.
