Friday Photos- A snow day and a birthday

A look back at the week, Monday through Friday, through photos

This week started off with my staring down the barrel of a five day work week. I know that's the norm for many. But for me, I'd only worked one day in the preceding two weeks so the idea of working Monday through Friday was a little daunting. I woke up suuuuper early on Monday (4:00 am) in anticipation of the big week.

By Tuesday, all talk at school was on the snowstorm that was predicted for Tuesday into Wednesday. It looked like snow was coming for a certainty and the timing of its arrival portended well for having a day off of school. Indeed, Tuesday evening, our district along with many others in the vicinity called school off for Wednesday. It was so nice to know that we were going to have the day off rather than wait until the morning of to find out. I slept in until almost 7:00 am; I'd have woken up at a minimum two hours before then if we'd had school. Also, if the administrators had waited until Wednesday to make the call about having school or not... well, I think we would have had school. We only got about an inch or so overnight and temperatures increased such that the precipitation that was predicted occurred but it was in the form of rain. Oh well, we got our snow day and that's all that counts!

Rare is the snow day wherein the amount of snow on the ground is significantly less at the end of the snow day than it is in the beginning of the day but Wednesday was such a day. Between the rain and warm temperatures, almost all of the snow that fell on Sunday was gone by the end of Wednesday/ our snow day.

 I took this picture Wednesday morning to show that little to no snow was on the sidewalks or roads. By the end of the day, almost all the snow that is seen here was melted. 

The temperature got up to 45 degrees...

...and I documented my errand outfit as a hoodie and vest. Not bad attire for a snow day ;)

A "one" and a "seven" matching candles proved elusive at Wal-mart. 

Thursday was Alyssa's birthday!! Sweet seventeen. My stars. Not to be super melodramatic but this will be her last year of being a child. She will be an adult next year this time. I just... can't. My head refuses to wrap around that fact.

I had a Happy Birthday sign up for Alyssa to see when she woke up in the morning and then she and I went to school and Donnie to work. During the day, I came home during my lunch half hour to make pie crust. Occasionally, I take advantage of living less than a mile away from  the school where I sub the most.  I wanted to a make a pie for Alyssa for dessert and I needed chilled pie crust so I decided to make some in the 15 or so minutes I'd have at home during lunch. 

The pie dough seemed super dry and it wasn't until I saw what measuring cup I'd used for the water to realize that I'd made a mistake and added too little water. I guess hurrying to make the crust was not a good idea. (Though adding water when I went to roll out the dough wasn't that big of a deal.)

When Alyssa and I got home from school, I placed a sushi order from the restaurant where she likes sushi the best and then we went to pick it up. Her boyfriend came over shortly after we got home. I made her chocolate chip pecan pie (crust not quite up to snuff notwithstanding- it sufficed!!) and then she and her boyfriend ate sushi while Donnie and I had manicotti for dinner. 

The birthday girl, her sign, her chocolate chip pecan pie, her no candles- the latter worked out because she used that as a reason for why we shouldn't sing Happy Birthday to her, not because our singing voices are bad, lol.

We will have a larger celebration later when more family members can come to the house.
