The Bah Humbug boys and the lighted greenery (for days) girls: a family's contrast in Christmas decorating deconstructed

The title is just a wordy- perhaps pithy- way of saying: Pictures of the house decorated for Christmas!!

Using the term "Bah Humbug" only to describe the boys' attitude about decorating for Christmas. Both Donnie and Jacob love Christmas. Donnie is the most generous person that I know with regard to giving of his time and money. He is the first to give to charities and he gifts generously to loved ones. The apple hasn't fallen far from the tree when it comes to Jacob. He is generous and loves Christmas. But both boys could do without the decor.

Fortunately, Donnie accepts the girls' and my exact opposite attitude about decor and the extent of the decor. The fact that the season doesn't last too long helps, I'm sure when he sees I've added more junk merriment somewhere in the house. 

Here are a few pictures from the house this year:

The family room tree- For years we had a twelve-foot tree in this room that I both loved and didn't love. It looked great lit up but it was such a pain to put together. I had to stand precariously on my tippy toes on the mantel to try to add the topper to the tree. We had to use a ladder to add ornaments to the top portions of it. Lights strands began to not light up. So, last year, I took the tree that I'd placed in the basement to bring cheer to it up to the family room. (I added the tree to the basement so that Donnie could "enjoy" a tree down there as he spends more time in the basement than anyone since it's where his guitars, keyboard and other musical things are. He had expressed that the tree didn't really bring him joy which made the decision to use that tree in the family room instead of the basement even easier. So Donnie's Bah Decor Humbug worked to my advantage!)

It has homemade ornaments on it and ornaments that reflect interests...

Donnie jokes that this "B" is his favorite ornament 😏

In previous years, I had garland with lights on the mantel. The lights didn't work when I plugged them in this year and I have not replaced them.

The tree in the entryway is my photo ornament tree with photos of the kids and our nieces when they were younger.  Colored bulbs, some of which are vintage (given to us by Donnie's parent's- ornaments that they'd used) that are the same colors as the photo frames- green, blue and red add a complementary touch.  Red angels and red trumpets round out the majority of the ornaments on the tree. 

The tree in the dining room is decorated with the least pizzazz or maybe I should say ornaments with no sentiment. Because there's so much going on in the room, I thought that simple would work better for that tree. So it has just a few basic bulbs on it. I really just wanted a tree in the room since the dining room Christmas china depicts a scene with a Christmas tree on it.

We have another set of Christmas/ winter china for the kitchen. I don't keep the table set like this all the time- the following picture is from last year when I had the table set for our Christmas meal on Christmas day:

This china has serving and miscellaneous pieces in the same motif that I use throughout the season

Someone thought of everything (and I tried to buy everything, lol). This is a photo album with the motif on it. 

It houses pictures of Jacob's first Christmas so it's a keeper!!

Just a little Christmas cheer in our room- in contrast, the girls' rooms both have a lot of Christmas cheer. Alyssa's room has two trees in it, a table top one and a full size one. She has garland that lights up around her window and she's placed strands of lighted bulbs around the frame of her bed on the floor and on the floor around the couch in her room. She also has a Christmas themed duvet cover. Abby has a small Christmas tree in her room and she has a Christmas themed comforter. 

We have a few more Christmas things that I haven't photographed. Wanting to get this posted so I'll just leave it at this...
