Halloween 2019 or Trick or Treating in the Snow
We are in possession of pounds and pounds of candy after trick or treating. The girls received impressive hauls and the children (especially small kids) did not come a knockin' on our door in droves like they have in years past which meant we didn't give as much away. The reason for a smaller turnout was that the weather was terrible on Halloween. Mother nature could not have conspired worse for the little princesses, ninjas, superheros, benign witches and other characters all hoping to enjoy a festive, non freezing evening of candy acquisition.
The forecast did not look good for Thursday the 31st days in advance. I held on to some hope that the forecast would change and the weather would turn out OK. After all, we'd had some incredibly gorgeous days in the month of October. One more nice day on the last day of the month didn't seem too ambitious a hope to have.
Alas, the forecast didn't change- or if it did, it only changed for the worse and worse than that, the forecast was correct. It rained nearly all day on the 31st and temperatures dropped from a high of 59 degrees in the morning to 35 by the evening. The rain stopped around 3:00 pm but that was replaced by high winds. By the time the temperature dropped to 35, it felt like 24 degrees with the wind chill. It also started to lightly snow during trick or treating.
Despite the weather, the girls had a good time trick or treating. The weather was frightful but that made trick or treating more like an accomplishment. Triumphing over adversity, suburban Ohio style.
I took quite a few pictures and will let them do the talking...
Pre- trick or treating meal- note that all of the candy pictured was candy that I planned on giving away to trick or treaters. I just thought I'd arrange some of it- the candy in the middle- to be a center piece of sorts and to let the girls have a piece or two of candy before trick or treating if they wanted. The candy in the bowls was what we started out with for the trick or treaters and I thought I'd use the candy in the middle of the table as additional candy if we ran out during trick or treating. As it turned out, we didn't nearly go through all of the candy in the bowls so we didn't have to tap into the reserves.
We also had meatballs- not pictured.
Tried to get lots of veggies in before the candy consumption started. The girls snacked/ dined on carrots, cucumbers, and two varieties of peppers. The pumpkin seeds were from the pumpkin that Alyssa carved. I roasted them and presented them as an alternative to chips.

Before he turned into a zombie baseball player, Colin came over to say hi to us and give me a card he'd made.
Avery came over to eat dinner with us and of course to trick or treat. The girls are both Stitch from Lilo and Stitch. They both wanted to be Stitches. Goodness, why not?
