A four day school week and the fall play
Last week was a special one because the kids only had school four days. They had Friday off of school because of parent- teacher conferences. The week was especially tiring for Abby because Monday- Thursday after school she had play practice for at least two hours. She was able to make it to dance practice the evening where she doesn't start dance practice until 7:00 pm. But that meant that she was gone from home for an extraordinarily long time. And she had tests during the week so she had to study when she arrived home from her various practices. So not having to wake up early on Friday for school was a huge blessing to her.
Alyssa's school week was a normal one but her soccer schedule changed last week. The team is now practicing at a location that's further away from where they normally train. The team is down to two practices a week instead of three (the fall season is winding down and will be over soon). I wasn't going to have to drive the soccer car pool this week because we have three families in the carpool. Then schedules changed and it turned out I needed to drive the carpool one of the nights of training. It's not that I dislike to drive to soccer but if I had my druthers, I'd rather stay at home then drive to soccer. The day that I was supposed to drive, Alyssa woke up with a very stiff neck. I assured her that it would get better as the day progressed. By the time she was home from school, she still felt stiffness in her neck although it wasn't as bad as it had been in the morning. Alyssa's practice ended up being canceled due to the cold weather (it had snowed briefly during the day on Thursday and was extremely cold by the evening). I was really glad that soccer was canceled- both for Alyssa's sake because her neck didn't feel 100% normal and for me because that meant I could stay home all evening :).
Friday, the girls' beloved day off of school, arrived, and they slept in a little bit. The girls got up, made themselves coffee and breakfast and hung out together until Abby had to go to the school at noon for one last two hour practice before the play. While she was at play practice, Alyssa and I watched a Hallmark Christmas movie while dining on a lunch of stove popped popcorn (Alyssa also had a plate full of veggies- she didn't just eat buttery, greasy popcorn for lunch (although I did)). We enjoyed our movie (of course!) and then I picked Abby up from school. After I dropped her off at home, I ran a couple of errands, came home, and shortly after that, took Abby back to the school where we wouldn't see her until we saw her On Stage during the Fall Play!!
The play was really cute. It was called The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon and it was a parody of the Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel. It was very comedic and the students did a fabulous job portraying various characters- all who started out single and many of whom lacked Christmas cheer in the beginning but by the end, they all had a special someone and lots of holiday cheer. I went to all three performances and each time "got" even more of the jokes and understood the story lines better. I took pictures of Abby on stage and was able to capture some of the drama as it pertained to Holly- the owner of the Evergreen Inn who needed a miracle to save the inn. Perchance she would receive her miracle and find love??
Uh-oh. She's talking to someone from the bank. They won't lend her money to keep the inn in business.
Lamenting the situation with her friend
meeting a "handy man" at the inn
Getting a lift from the handy man
Daydreaming about the handy man
falling in love with the the handy man
getting a marriage proposal from the handy man- he's actually the prince of a small (though not well known), wealthy European nation. Oh, and he paid for the inn for her.
This was the second night of the performance. I got some pictures of some scenes that I didn't get on the first night.
The evil man who plans to take over the inn on Christmas and turn it into a smoothie bar
When the handy man/ secret prince comes into the inn, he helps her hang mistletoe
Discussing the handy man situation with her best friend
Again, the unfortunate conversation with the bank
But... if he's just a handy man, why do some women want to get their picture taken with him? Is something else going on with him?
Of course, there's something else... he's a prince and here's his proposal on night two:
The third performance-
The handy man has just helped her hang the mistletoe
This is a sleigh ride
The proposal- for the third time!!
So here's something kind of funny that happened at the third performance. Something unexpected happened on stage and the handy man started laughing and could not stop. Then someone else came on to the stage and she started to laugh, too. Abby's expression as she looked at the actress- it's conveying (to me at least), "Seriously, you too?" The thing was, this scene was at the very end of the play and the play was a comedy so it wasn't a big deal that there was some "unscripted" laughter from the cast.
Family and friends came to various shows. Here is Abby with Emma and Taylor after the third performance.
Abby and her handy man/ prince. He sustained an injury during one of the shows and wanted a picture to show the pain he endured for the sake of art :).
The prince and his princess- ok, not only are not actually a prince and princess, they are just friends in real life.
