A Two Hour School Delay!
An early middle of November snow fall? A two hour school delay? YES! and YES!
Monday's high temperature was 57 degrees so thinking about the possibility of a two hour school delay the following day seemed absurd- except that there was a Winter Weather Advisory for Monday from late afternoon to the early morning on Tuesday. Less than twelve hours after the temperature was 57 degrees, it was 20 degrees and there were three inches of snow on the ground. The snow started late afternoon on Monday. It stopped late in the evening. In terms of hoping that we'd have a school delay, we were worried that the snow would stop too soon and there wouldn't be a delay. The girls were convinced that school would not be delayed so they set the alarms on their phones for the normal school morning time (if we're pretty certain that there will be a delay, they don't set their alarms. That minimizes the risk of not being able to fall back asleep if there's a delay but their alarm sounds at the normal early time. If there is no delay, then I wake them up at their normal time).
On Tuesday, I woke up around 4:00 am and couldn't go back to sleep. I got up to access the snow fall situation (I did this visually from inside the house of course). It had stopped snowing and the road in front of our house was bereft of snow, although the street did look damp (which could mean it was icy as the temp was way below freezing). As of 5:00 am, the school had not called a delay. I was subbing that day at one of the schools that starts early, so since I was awake, I started to get ready for the day. That's when I heard a text ping and was quite certain it was from our school district saying there was a delay. And there was! I tiptoed into the girls' rooms to tell them there was a delay. What a good way to start the day...
Abby had been at dance for three hours the evening earlier. She was making up some of the dance she missed last week during tech week for the fall play. Then she came home and studied for a couple of hours. The extra two hours of sleep she was able to get thanks to the delay was fortuitous.
Alyssa was supposed to have soccer training Tuesday evening but it was canceled due to extremely cold temperatures.
Besides being the first two hour delay of the school, Tuesday was a Big Day for us because it was the day that we acquired plumbing in the kids’ upstairs bathroom. The bathroom hadn’t been functional as a bathroom since Labor Day weekend when Donnie demo’d the bathroom to ready it for renovations. Donnie finished all of the tiling, grouting, and sealing this past weekend. We had a plumber come back to the house to hook everything back up. He put the toilet back in, installed the faucets in the sinks, added the shower head to the shower and hooked everything up such that we have water/ plumbing in the bathroom. While we still have a few big things to do to the bathroom to finish the project, we've come a long way from a gutted bathroom. And, the end is in sight.
So, it was a pretty good Tuesday- extra sleep for the girls and a toilet they could use/ flush by the end of the day.
Monday afternoon- a pleasant November day...
... that was about to change! This was Tuesday morning
What a difference a day makes- This was Tuesday, less than 24 hours after the temperature had been 57 degrees.
Switching gears- what a difference ten weeks and hours and hours and hours of Donnie working make!

The biggest item to be completed is getting a shower door installed. Of course, Donnie won't do that. He will add the mirror over the vanity and paint. And that will be just about it!
