Generally this January...
Thought I'd give an update to our schedule/ happenings in January before the month ends. Our January schedule is much different than our December one and I'll highlight some of the *new* changes to the month:
Jacob- Jacob began reffing basketball in January. He's reffing basketball games once a week for a local rec boys/ girls basketball program. To say he doesn't like it is an understatement. He told me yesterday that he prefers going to school to reffing basketball. The problem appears to lie in the intensity of the coaches (who are also parents of kids on teams- double trouble :() during the game. Jacob is nervous he's going to make a bad call and get yelled at by theseparents of future NBA players parent coaches. It's as if the weight of whether the coachs' kids get drafted in the first round or second round of the NBA draft rests on Jacob's getting every call right. He's also not crazy about the rules for the younger kids- they can double dribble and that offends Jacob's purist basketball heart. On the bright side, he's earning money. He can't complain about that. Jacob's soccer team is doing an indoor soccer league like they did in the fall. Through an odd set of circumstances, Jacob hasn't played in January yet on the indoor team. Hopefully that will happen next weekend.
The big event in Jacob's January was getting his driver's license which I wrote about here. It's nice to not have to drive him to the basketball games he refs. Was it scary to have him drive in quasi -freezing rain last weekend? Yet, but that's what happens when you get your driver's license in the winter. One drive has to be your first bad weather drive. It would have been ideal for Jacob to not have his first winter weather drive less than a week after getting his license but...
Jacob and I started watching The Office together on Netflix in early January. Some, well, let's face it- a lot of the humor is sophomoric but that doesn't make it any less funny.
Abby- Abby's schedule really hasn't changed much this January. The biggest change is that she's having more dance practices on the weekends. The beginning of the new year ushers in the beginning of dance competition season. Her studio's first competition is in February so the pressure is starting to build to get all of the routines in competition shape. We've bought dance costumes and props this month (a little late to be buying costumes but we're getting them which is what's important).
Abby has continued to babysit a little bit this month. The babysitting gig she does is pretty easy. She's becoming adept at spending the money she earned last fall reffing soccer, babysitting in the fall/ winter and babysitting she's doing now. She loves Amazon Prime.
Alyssa's schedule picked up in January. In early January, her soccer team started its winter training once a week in Blue Ash. In addition to training, her team is doing a winter indoor soccer session at Wall2Wall. Her team is playing in the top boys' U11 division and they have games once a week. So far her team is 2-0. It's fun seeing her play soccer again. She's also doing her club's non-mandatory/ mandatory futsal league. She's continuing her once a week speed work sessions with her trainer at GAC, Jay. In gymnastics, she's still going to a class once a week. She got her round off - tuck on the floor earlier this month.
That's about it... the current schedule/ activity that the kids have in January should continue throughout February. March will usher in outdoor spring soccer and our schedules will change completely. For now, we have our activities firmly in place. Hopefully, for the kids' sake, we'll have a snowstorm or two before spring to break the monotony of activities and of course to miss school. Speaking of missing school, the kids have had one measly two hour delay in the month of January. In December, I believe they missed one day of school completely and had one day with a two hour delay. January and some of its 50 and 60 degree weather days are not doing anything for the kids vis a vis missing school. The weather needs to get the memo: the kids want a break from school and mild temps are not cutting it!!

Life is CRAZY around here!! How else do you explain FOUR opened packages of mild cheddar cheese that I found in the refrigerator?
When I saw this huge package on the porch and brought it inside, I thought, "Who on earth ordered this?" It turned out that I ordered it- it's a prop that Abby needs for one of her dances.
One exciting thing in January is being able to type "President Trump." We are all excited about this- no march in our future unless it's in support of President Trump. Couldn't think of a better meal to celebrate Donald Trump's presidency than Chik- fil- A. CFA has been on the receiving end of the mainstream media's bias just as Trump has. We will continue to support both Trump and CFA. That the latter makes great tasking chicken and sweets...
...is the icing on the cake are the chocolate chunks in its cookies :)
