Lacrosse
Jacob's lacrosse team played its first game on Tuesday. His games will be primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Unfortunately, Alyssa's soccer team has its training on Tuesday and Thursdays this spring (her training started on Tuesday) so Donnie will miss most of Jacob's games. There are a couple of Monday/ Wednesdays games and his team will do at least one tournament so Donnie will get to see a few games, hopefully.
There are 23 boys on the team and only ten play on the field so there are more than enough subs!
Jacob started and ended the game so it's safe to say he played more than 1/2 the game. Jacob plays offense which in lacrosse vernacular means he plays attack and/or the X position. X is the middle attack position.
Springboro beat our opponent, Dayton South, 6-2! We were very pleasantly surprised with that outcome. Jacob's team has scrimmaged other Springboro Jr. High teams (there are four Boro teams- 1 A team and 3 B teams. The B teams are supposed to be "equal" teams but we are highly suspicious that they are not equal. Jacob plays on one of the weaker "equal" B teams) and lost handily. So, we were pretty much expecting a loss. We came out early on top 2-0. Then Dayton South scored 2 before we scored our final four goals. Jacob did not score. I know he was disappointed in that. He was playing offense in the first rotation when we scored 2 points, but he never touched the ball during that rotation. Near the end of the game, he had the ball and could have shot, but he had an open teammate close by, so he passed the ball to his teammate who shot and scored. So, he had a nice assist. Jacob said he would have felt like a jerk taking the shot when his teammate was open. Jacob has never been a ball hog in any sport he's played. He was thrilled with his team's victory. Jacob, Abby and I headed to Dairy Queen after the game for a celebratory dairy treat.
I like it when the players run with their sticks up. It's like they're warriors preparing for battle (not that I ever want Jacob to be in an actual battle...).
Jacob and No. 37 both want the ball. No. 37 has an unfair advantage (that height!).
It's good! The ref signals the goal in which Jacob had the assist.
I hope all the games end like this one!
