Halloween/ Birthday Party
Saturday was Abby's final birthday celebration! I planned a birthday/ Halloween party for her. We invited all of her friends from dance. This year is Abby's 5th year on the competition team and she's known many of the girls from her studio for five years. All the girls get along really well together and enjoy spending time together. I thought they would have fun getting together to celebrate Abby's birthday, and- since her birthday is in October, I decided to do a Halloween dress up party. The last time I had a Halloween/ Birthday party for her was when she turned four. This time around, Abby was able to help me with decor, food ideas, craft ideas, etc. We had a good time planning the party. Pinterest was my main inspiration. This was my first Pinterest -era party and I do owe a lot of the success to the ideas that I found there! Abby and I spent a lot of time on Pinterest gleaning ideas.
When the girls arrived, we started off with pumpkin decorating. Pumpkin painting is a tradition I started when I read about it in Family Fun magazine years ago (def before Pinterest). I have acrylic craft paint in just about every color you can think of. I have brushes of various sizes, included some that are shaped round to make dots. I have a ton of glitter in different colors that I figured would appeal to the girls at this party. I also had stencils and tape that the girls could use. I think that everyone enjoyed this activity.
We then went inside to eat. I had Halloween themed food there which was a pretty big hit. Almost all the food ideas were from Pinterest. We had mini mummies, mac and scary cheese, a veggie o' lantern, creepy chips and dip, crazy cheese fingers, chocolate witch hats and of course, cake.
We then had a costume contest. The girls voted for the Most Creative and All Around Best Costume. Some costumes were really creative.
Then, I set the girls loose in Abby's Sweet Shop located in the dining room to make candy kabobs and pick out candy from the candy bouquet to take home. The girls loved their sweet treats. Who wouldn't??
The best part for me was that my sister came down from Canada and was there with her family for the party. It just so happened that their school had Friday and Monday off so they decided to come for a visit. Her girls loved being a part of the party and I loved having Katy's help and getting to share the day with her.
The party was a lot of work but it was worth it. Abby really enjoyed it and I think her friends did too. Here is a slide show with close to 50 pictures and just a few random ones.
