Last basketball game
Jacob played his last Springboro Youth Basketball game last night. The league's tournament began last weekend, when Abby and I were in Indianapolis for the StarPower dance competition. The tournament is double elimination. Jacob's team lost its first game on Sunday and won its second game. Losing the first game put us in the loser's bracket; winning the second game ensured at least one more game. Last night, Jacob's team played Bellbrook, a team which they had beaten once this year and lost to once this year. The winner of that game would play a second game that evening against Carroll, a team which beat us once but we also beat once this year. The team that won that game, would play on Saturday for the title. So, anything was possible...
Unfortunately, we were plagued by many turnovers and a Bellbrook defense that we couldn't overcome. We hung with them for the first quarter and then fell pretty far behind and we never caught up.
On a positive note for us, Jacob was the second highest scorer on his team coming into this game, the 28th(!) of the season. He was hoping to become the high scorer. He did manage to overtake the previous high scorer by scoring two more points than the other kid in the Bellbrook game. So, Jacob ended his SYB "career" on a high note.
I wouldn't have been able to go to the game if Abby hadn't hurt her toe in dance. She normally has dance on Wednesday but her dance teacher told her to take Wednesday off. That enabled the girls and me to be able to go to the game.

So proud of Jacob and his tenacity! He's always worked hard at basketball and this year was no exception. He is fun to watch and root for. I don't know if he heard me on the court or not, but I was his number one (vocal) fan! I would almost always yell out and cheer his name (or nickname Bubby) when he made a basket, stole the ball, got a rebound, whatever. It's worth it to me to be labeled a loud mouth parent if, in being a loud mouth, my boy heard me and knew how proud I was of him. I love my basketball Bubby!
