On Saturday, we traveled to the Wilds, a wildlife conservation center in Cumberland, OH. We rode in a bus that took us to see a variety of animals, some of which are nearly extinct. The bus stopped at a couple of places, where we could get out (not with the animals!) and feed the fish, walk on an elevated walkway above where the mid size carnivores are kept (cheetahs), and the kids could check out antlers of animals. We were able to see giraffes, wild horses, zebras, rhinos, and cheetahs among others. We enjoyed seeing the animals in the setting at the Wild. Donnie and I enjoyed hearing the guides (bus drivers) provide information on the how the Wilds was started and interesting facts on many of the animals. We non animals lovers were impressed! Jacob did declare that he never wanted to go there again; but I know he enjoyed many parts of it. The girls seemed to enjoy most of it. They kept calling , "here kitty, kitty" to the docile cheetahs. All of the kids' favorite part was, not surprising for us suburban dwellers, the consumerism part of the trip. Yes, going to the gift shop and letting kids pick out items that will lay at the bottom of the toy chest or worse, underfoot, until I throw them out, provided much joy to the kids. You can take the kids out of the suburbs, but you can't take the suburbs out of the kids!!
