Weekending

 I'll start with Thursday- had a good day of subbing and when I got home, one of the teachers whom I like to sub for texted me to ask if I could sub for her on Friday. She told me she had just put the job on the site where subs can pick up jobs. I told her I could but when I went to the site, someone had already picked it up. The teacher was disappointed and said it had just been on the site five seconds ago. Mama tried! The forecast called for the possibility of frost overnight. I didn't think it would frost and figured if I covered my plants that would guarantee there wouldn't be frost whereas if I did nothing, we'd get frost. 

I decided to cover some of the plants with old sheets (an overflowing linen closet was made for such a time as this) before going to bed. As I was covering the plants, I sang (in my head...) to them the Jason Mraz song, "I Won't Give Up" but I sang that I wouldn't up on them (as opposed to "us"). We had frost in the forecast for two nights but then the temperatures were expected to not be freezing overnight for at least a week. 

Woke up Friday morning to FROST on the ground. Awww, I'm so glad that I covered my babies!! 

Jacob was headed down to Cincinnati for the weekend as it was his college's homecoming game on Saturday. Before he left we grabbed lunch at the B&B Carryout. We also discovered that the heat in our house wasn't working. This was unfortunate as well as the fact that I called the place that installed a new HVAC system all of two years ago, the bot whom I interacted with on the phone said that no one could come out until Tuesday to look at it. I stayed physically busy the rest of the day which was the key to not feeling cold in the 60 degree house- I did housework and ran on the treadmill.

We had fun plans for the evening with friends but those plans got derailed so Donnie and I had to pivot. We decided to see the movie Truth and Treason. This movie is an Angel Studio movie and we get "free" tickets to see Angel Studio movies because we are members of the Angel Studio Guild. I say "free" because we pay $19.99 a month for access to the Angel's streaming service (that we've never used 😆) and then we get two "free" tickets to movies that are released to theaters. We haven't seen an Angel theater move since January yet we've paid close to $200 to the guild since then so the tickets truly weren't free- we just didn't have to purchase tickets to it...

The movie is based on the real life story of a seventeen year old boy, Helmuth Hubener, who was executed by Nazis in Germany for treason because he spoke out against the regime for committing a genocide against Jewish people. Now that regime was fascist. Seeing the movie engendered in me justifiable (I think anyway) outrage anew at how flippantly numerous leftists refer to conservatives as "fascists." 

Charlie Kirk was not a fascist despite what one political side's groupthink has decreed.  Saturday morning, I read an article from the Daily Mail about an "award winning teacher" (dear goodness) who referred to Charlie as a "horrible person, a fascist full of hate..." in a Facebook rant. Nope. Charlie was no fascist. Here's how I (an unaward winning substitute teacher) know he was not a fascist: I know the definition of a fascist and I listened regularly to Charlie Kirk. He advocated for a smaller government, he was pro 2A, he wanted open debate on policy issues- he was no fascist! Here's who did not want open debate on issues: Fascist Nazis in Germany during the 3rd Reich. President Trump is likewise not a fascist. Here's how I know he is not a fascist: those who disagree with him and overtly say and/or write terrible things about his character, his family and his intentions have not lost their heads (literally, I mean, like Helmuth Hubener who was sent to the guillotine. Not figuratively. Many minds are, unfortunately, gone when it comes to rationally thinking about Trump) or have bullets in their skulls or been imprisoned. 

Anyway, the popcorn and pop were good at the theater where we saw Truth and Treason. We went to a theater we'd never been to before in West Chester. Refills are free on large sizes so of course we got larges of both :).

Saturday, I read some in the morning, ran on the treadmill, and then my brother came over a little before noon to watch the IU football game. We were playing unranked UCLA but they'd won their last three games. Would it be a good game? No, it would not be. I mean, it was good in that IU won but the game itself was pretty uneven and IU won easily.

It was a good college football game for all of us: University of Cincinnati won- they are ranked though not super high; at least they will stay ranked. University of Tennessee won and of course, the aforementioned Hoosiers won. OSU didn't play this weekend so they will remain number one (I assume?) and IU should retain its number two spot in the nation. 

Saturday evening, we went out to eat at a new to us sports bar restaurant in nearby Carlise. We liked it and will return to the Angry Chicken...

Sunday was a cool outside run followed by getting ready for church. We heard a good message then went home to eat lunch. Shortly after lunch, I left for Columbus for the next several hours. The first stop was meeting up with a Facebook Marketplace seller. After telling myself that I need no more Christmas dishes, I caved when I saw a listing that had some items in my kitchen Christmas china pattern that I didn't even know existed and I had some items that I'd been eyeing. The price was really good for the items. The seller lives about 2 1/2 hours from me and I was having trouble justifying driving for five hours for items that I did not need one bit! The seller messaged me that she'd meet me on the west side of Columbus- now we were talking... That's only about an hour and a half drive for me and bonus I could see my favorite undergraduate, assuming she had some time to spend with me. She did, fortunately, so I got to see my little Bee and I got all of these dishes:

By the time I arrived home, steak was almost done on the grill. Maybe I need to meet up with Marketplace sellers every Sunday afternoon... just kidding, I now have about twenty plates in this pattern. I need to stop....
