Weekending

Friday I was supposed to sub for 1/2 day at the junior high.  I thought that sounded like a good gig- less than four hours, make a tiny bit of money, see some of my favorite students and then...the teacher canceled the 1/2 day. Oh well, mama tried ;). 

I ran errands and got some things done around the house. I talked to Abby and she relayed two pieces of good information. The last big news she'd shared with us was not good- the study abroad trip that she hoped to take this summer to France had been canceled- so it was with an extra grateful heart that I received the good news she shared. A couple of weeks ago, she applied for an executive leadership role in one of the student clubs she's involved with on campus. She found out recently that not only did she get a large leadership role, but it's also a paid position. So, she will earn money for her efforts- she'd assumed it was a volunteer position that would give her good experience and, to be frank, look good on her resume. So that was good! Then in one of her film classes, the students were assigned to write a screen play. Students submitted their work anonymously, read each other's works and then voted on the one that they'd like to produce. Abby's won! So that was exciting to hear.

Friday evening was a date night at home- homemade pizza followed by watching Netflix. Alyssa had track practice and then she spent time with her boyfriend.

Saturday, I woke up early and a glance at my phone revealed that it WAS NOT FREEZING COLD- all caps because it was the first Saturday morning in months that it hadn't been freezing. It was in the mid 50's if I remember correctly. I went for a run in nearly balmy like conditions (we've had numerous days in the 60's and some in the 70's this year already but for some reason weekend mornings have been cold all year long!). During the course of the day on Saturday the weather devolved. The temperature dropped and damaging winds swept through the area. It's an odd day when the weather peaks at 6:00 am but there we were. 

Alyssa and I ran an errand, and we started packing for an upcoming short trip we're taking soon. I decided that for the trip I wanted to bring a smaller wallet than my normal one, so I started to switch my money, cards, etc. from my bigger wallet to a smaller one. That's when I made a startling discovery or non-discovery. My driver's license was nowhere to be found. I didn't panic for about forty-five minutes as I searched everywhere that I could think of. I couldn't think of where or why I'd had it out such that it wasn't in my wallet.  99% of the times I've needed it, it's been in my wallet so I was stumped as to where it was. 

Well, after forty-five minutes or so panic (and I mean PANIC) did ensue, and I informed Donnie and Alyssa of my (/our- if mama isn't getting on the plane, Alyssa isn't) predicament. Long story short, Donnie found my driver's license! It was in an obscure spot though when Donnie told me where he'd found it, the reason it was there made sense, but I had forgotten about why I had it there. I NEVER would have thought to look there. Also, normally right before we leave for the airport, I glance in my wallet to make sure my license is in there. If I'd waited until right before we left, it would have been too late. It wouldn't have been in my wallet, and I would have panicked from the first second because by then it would be too late, and we would have missed our flight. So, it was a big answer to prayer that my driver's license made its way into my smaller wallet (and that is ready to go to the airport!!).

In the search for my driver's license, I found something that had been lost for about a year! It's my smallest camera lens for my Nikon. When I realized I had lost it about a year ago, I could recall where I had it last and thought for sure that when I contacted the building where I was when I last had it, someone would tell me it was in the lost and found. When I called, I found out it wasn't in the lost and found. That was upsetting because I really liked the lens, and it would not be inexpensive to replace; I still kept my eye on it at home in case it was there. When I searched my car for my driver's license, I found the camera lens. It was wedged under the driver's seat of my car (the last building it likely was in was the one where I thought. But the lens made it out of the building. It must have fallen out of my camera bag in the car). I had looked in the car for the lens when it first went missing but apparently, I didn't look hard enough, lol. I was sooooo happy to find it. When I came into the house after finding the camera lens in the car but not my license, Donnie was just getting ready to come to the garage to tell me that he'd found my driver's license.

Crisis averted and I have my favorite prime lens back! Could the day get any better? Actually, yes.

A messy seafood dinner with friends and a movie afterward sealed the day as officially a good one.

Sunday morning, I woke up early, ran, and then we went to church. Our pastor preached his last sermon in many months- due to a treatment he needs for a medical procedure, he won't be able to preach until October at the earliest. His sermon was a poignant one for Psalm Sunday and we will keep him in our prayers (as we've been praying for him) during his procedure and treatment.

After church, it was mostly a relaxing day. Had lots to do but plenty of time in which to do it so there was no stress. And the sun was out all day- for the first time in what seems like weeks.

But second, coffee- we often get coffee for Alyssa after church at her favorite coffee shop. It's the site of a bank and it's also a coffee shop. I only go there on weekends with Alyssa so the bank part is closed. 

We bought polish to put on our toes...

... and on Sunday, we did our toenails. Alyssa had gotten a manicure earlier in the week and we tried to find polish to match the colors of her nails.

I call this one, "Getting There." Slowly but surely things are greening up around here ;)
