Happy 14th Alyssa
LyssByss turned fourteen on Sunday. "Lyssbyss" was a nickname we used a lot in Alyssa's preschool days (her current nickname is one that came about when she was in first grade and it's still going strong). A few days before her birthday, my friend Cory sent me a picture of Alyssa and Cory's son and another neighborhood friend when the kids were three or four years old. Seeing that picture brought the "LyssByss" days to the forefront of my mind. Who can resist looking/ thinking back in time when a birthday rolls round? Maybe some people can, but I can't :).
Alyssa celebrated her birthday by having her best friend Avery spend the night on Friday. Alyssa and Avery have known each other since they were babies and have been officially best friends for the past ten years or so. They had a good time, per usual when they are together. Alyssa made homemade pancakes for Avery and her for breakfast Saturday morning. She used the recipe from the kids cookbook that she got for Christmas.
We gave Alyssa her requested birthday present, an Apple Watch on Saturday. Donnie wanted to make sure it was synced with her iPhone and charged so that she could start using it on her birthday which was Sunday. Donnie got the watch up and running on Saturday so we let her have it on Saturday. She loves it- she knew she would because she was familiar with my Apple Watch and liked it.
On Sunday, Alyssa's actual birthday, we went to the later church service so the girls could sleep in. Before church, I made the chocolate chip pecan pie that Alyssa requested. Alyssa helped me make the Rice Krispie treats that she requested as well for her birthday. Straight from church, we stopped at Steak n' Shake because why not eat a burger, fries and a shake on your birthday, subsequent consumption of pie and Rice Krispie treats notwithstanding? We got our order to go because only Alyssa and I wanted Steak n' Shake. The place was very busy and we waited waaaaaay longer than was ideal for our food. Abby had a dance practice scheduled for the early afternoon. Her dance teacher asked if we could come a little bit earlier than the practice was scheduled for. So, by the time we arrived home with our food, we had to hurry to eat it/ Abby had to quickly prepare her lunch since we needed to leave for dance shortly after we arrived home. The rushing made the experience of Alyssa's birthday lunch slightly less than ideal (also SnS didn't make her burger like I'd requested) but these things happen.
Donnie's extended family came over later to celebrate Alyssa's birthday. Alyssa received some very nice items including gift cards, cash, clothes. She had a good time being celebrated and enjoyed her special day.
Alyssa is super sweet... most of the time. Say you forget to tell her that she has an orthodontist appointment the following day. Maybe not so sweet until she gets over it... Seriously, she has a great personality and she loves fiercely.
Speaking of the orthodontist, Alyssa has entered "Phase 2" of her orthodontia experience. Phase 2 entails 1) another few thousand dollars in payment to the orthodontist and 2) another 18 months of having her braces on. When she gets her braces off in eighteen months, she will have had her braces on for over FIVE YEARS (her braces were never off between phase 1 and phase 2). She got her braces on in fourth grade and she won't get them off until after her freshman year of high school..
I made this cake for her birthday celebration. Alyssa doesn't like icing so she isn't a fan of cake. Since birthday cakes are traditional and since not all of our guests like chocolate chip pecan pie, I felt like I should have a cake for guests.

Just a random bunch of pictures from back in the day- I have probably ten thousand pictures that she's in so obviously this is a tiny fraction. I could have spent hours combing through photos files on my computer (and quite frankly would have enjoyed doing it) but I couldn't justify spending that much time on one post! I found all of these on my phone's camera roll.

When you are having a Rocky Mountain high moment (this was before we got lost in the Rocky Mountains)
When the Great Lake closest to your cousins is the shallowest Great Lake and you run out far in the lake
When you take care of your baby and then take care of yourself (hey someone had to do it and it looks like mom was no help with a camera in her hand)
When your eyes are bigger than your head
When you roller skate with your sister
When the Three Rineer kids were wee
When you go on a hike in a local park
When your cousins come to visit but you have no Great Lake (or any lake really) nearby so you take them to your favorite park that has a creek (beggars can't be choosers!)
When you become a pretty girl with a sweet personality to match that sweet looking face
