A Wonderful Wednesday
Maybe the adjective "wonderful" is a bit strong; I used it primarily for the alliteration with "Wednesday." Still, it was a very pleasant day and I thought I'd document it for posterity.
It was the day before Thanksgiving. Most importantly for the kids, it was the first day of their five day break from school. All three of the kids have to get up super early on school days. Days off of school are the best opportunity that the kids have to catch up on their sleep. I know they don't get enough sleep on school nights so I appreciate days that the kids have off of school- you'd better believe that the kids appreciate days off of school even more than I do :). So that was first, very positive general thing about the day.
Next, Abby didn't have dance on Wednesday evening like she normally does. Abby enjoys dance or she wouldn't do it, obviously. But, she dances year round and little breaks are appreciated. With Abby not having dance in the evening, we had no plans for the evening. And made that our homebody loving selves quite content.
Donnie had to work during the day, unfortunately. And, I had work to do around the house as we were expecting company on Thursday and through the weekend. We were hosting a pre- Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving and then we were hosting the Thanksgiving meal on Friday. So, there was a lot to be done around the house. But, I'd spent a good part of Monday and Tuesday deep cleaning (or at least my version of deep clean (probably light cleaning for some :)) so I wasn't super overwhelmed on Wednesday. There wasn't much I could do food wise as that needed to be done on the day(s) we were hosting so that food would be fresh. I'd already done all of the food prep that I could do.
I started the morning by making waffles for the waffle eaters. On a normal weekday morning, the kids are in a hurry and eat whatever they can that's quick. I like to make them breakfast when we are not rushed. After the kids finished eating breakfast, Jacob embarked on an arduous adventure of Playstationing. He had to clean up his room and the guest bathroom but I told him he could do that Wednesday or Thursday prior to our guests coming. Not surprisingly, he went the procrastination route. In the early afternoon, he said that he was going over to Malcolm's house. The two of them were going to get something to eat and then hang out at Malcolm's. After they boys ate, the two of them briefly stopped by our house. I got to chat with Malcolm- it was so good to see him and hear that he doesn't like college too much. I mean, he likes it, which is great but he is taking it seriously. He told me that he's usually either studying or working out for the track team.
Meanwhile, I'd sent the girls to the basement to finish cleaning it up. Abby and I had spent some time cleaning out the basement the last weekend that Alyssa was out of town for soccer. And, subsequent to that, I'd spent at least two hours purging/ sorting/ organizing, etc. So, by Wednesday, there was mostly trash that needed to be picked up, some items that only the girls could ascertain whether or not to keep or thrown away, etc. The girls ended up spending most of the day in the basement. I checked on them many times, of course. They were either watching TV, or cleaning, or playing a game, or making up a dance (a waltz- apparently they watched Beauty and the Beast?). Basically, they spent the day together.
Wednesday evening when Donnie arrived home from work, I heated up some leftovers (pork tenderloin) for super for Donnie. The kids did not want leftover pork. What they did want was popcorn. I made some popcorn on the stove and we watched Back to Future. The girls really liked the movie. I don't think I'd seen it since it came out back in the 80's. While I don't have a crystal ball to see into the future or a DeLorean to transport me there, I foresaw myself eating copious amounts of unhealthy food in the next few days (my prediction would turn out to be most correct :)). It wasn't too late when the movie ended so I went for a run. It would be the last time that I ran in a few days so I'm glad that I did it.
A rather ordinary-albeit a good- day does not make for great pictorial memories. I took only one picture and that was of my popcorn/candy dinner. It was delicious!!
