Celebrating 16 years
We celebrated Jacob's 16th birthday on Sunday, two days prior to The Big Day.
My sister and her family were able to join the celebration for a little bit. With them living seven hours away, it's quite unusual for them to be part of birthday parties at our house.
We moved the party to closer to the middle of the day to accommodate Katy's family coming over and because having the party in the middle of day gave Jacob the rest of the day and the evening to study for his school exams, two of which were on Monday.
I made Jacob a Bengal's M & M and Kit Kat cake (which some mistook for a bowl of M & M's, lol). Jacob liked the cake but requested a cake with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups for next year. He's already thinking ahead; 366 days should give me plenty of timeto creatively design a Reese's PB cake to find something on Pinterest to try to duplicate.
Jacob received a number of nice gifts including gift cards, money, clothes, video games and a new PlayStation controller. Although we'll be seeing family in less than a week at Christmas time (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day), it was nice to set apart some time to celebrate our own Christmas baby's (16 years ago) birth.

Here's a picture from 2001- the year of Jacob's first birthday party. Pardon the quality of the picture. I took a picture of a printed picture. Although digital cameras existed back in 2001, Donnie and I were recent law school grads with humongous student loans and purchasing a digital camera was not in the financial cards in 2001. The Happy Birthday Jacob sign is the only thing that looks the same in 2001 and 2016.
Jacob did not like wearing his party hat nor was he was a fan of how the frosting on his cupcake felt (apparently), ergo the sad face.
Jacob really was a smiley baby. This picture taken shortly after his first birthday depicts an expression that we saw so much of when he was little and that warmed our hearts...
Maybe he's not quite as smiley as he was back then. But still, he's awfully cute.

In addition to his birthday cake, I made cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies and Rice Krispie treats to have a variety of sweet treats at his party. Jacob inherited the sugar loving gene and I was happy to accommodate/ capitalize on this love :).

He's smiling sardonically at me because this was a "redo" of his blowing the candles out. My camera was acting up when he blew them out the first time so I asked him re- blow out the candles.

Jacob opened his presents from Katy and Scott before he opened any other presents because they had to hit the road before the party ended.
