Summer Break Week 6- Those who weren't in Ocean City

The previous four blog posts I've written all took place during summer break week 6, but they all pertained to the trip that Abby and I took to Ocean City, Maryland for dance. Donnie, Alyssa and Jacob were in Ohio the whole week.

Donnie didn't go to work on July 4th. The weather in Ohio was just as it was in Maryland- cool and rainy. The three of them (Donnie, Alyssa and Jacob) didn't do anything too special (I think fireworks were canceled) except make s'mores indoors. Donnie was back to work on Tuesday and then it was Jacob and Alyssa at home unless they had an activity

We needed help from family to get Jacob and Alyssa to the places they needed to be for their various activities during the day that normally I'd take them to. We were very thankful that Donnie's mom, Donnie's dad and Uncle Doug took the time to get Jacob to and from Fast Twitch, to and from open field for soccer and Alyssa to and from Prodigy gym. Donnie's mom, dad and uncle treated Jacob and Alyssa to special things like lunch at Chik fil- A, getting donuts, making cookies with them, etc. I'm sure the kids appreciated the extra time that they got to spend with family members.

Of course with Jacob being 15 1 /2 years old, he was old enough to "watch" i.e. be in the same house with Alyssa such that the kids didn't need an adult with them at all times during the day. I knew that the kids would spend time by themselves, which was fine. I instructed Jacob that he couldn't leave the house with Alyssa at the house but he could have a friend over. I was a little worried that Alyssa would be bored during the day without her bestie, her sister, home.  I received the nicest text from my neighbor Cory mid week. She said that she loved having Alyssa over to their house to play. I had no idea that Alyssa had gone over to our neighbor's house (she was invited; she didn't just show up at their doorstop) three days in a row. Cory said the kids had the best time together. So thankful for friends, too, in addition to family.

At some point in the week the three of them went to the mall and they watched some movies at home. And that was their week besides their activities and down time. I'm sure they missed Abby and me just as we missed them.
