Soccer firsts
Jacob's soccer team played its first league on a school week night this week (Tuesday). Between the 40 minute drive to and from the field (in Enon, OH), having to be at the field 45 minutes prior to the game's start time (5:00 pm), the boys playing two 40 minute halves (plus half time) and a trip through a drive thru on the way home for food, Jacob and I were gone from our home for over four hours!
Fortunately we had something good to show for all those hours away from home- Jacob's team won 5-2. Jacob played really well (most of the boys did). He played almost the entire game. He was only subbed out once and that was with two minutes left in the game. This game was his team's first league win (now they're 1-2) and first win overall (they're 0-6 in tourney games).
The other nice thing for me was that it was the first soccer game of the spring season that I've attended where I haven't been freezing cold. I was actually comfortable in a short sleeve shirt and jeans. Prior to this game, I wasn't sure that non freezing soccer viewing was in my future. I've seen eleven soccer games so far this spring between Jacob and Alyssa's teams and Tuesday night's game was the only one where I didn't need a puffer coat and a blanket to feel remotely not freezing! While the sun provided warmth, it couldn't have been at a worse place in terms of viewing the field (or I guess you could say the field couldn't have been in a worse place since the sun was in existence before the soccer field :)). I wore sun glasses and still had to shield my eyes to see what was happening on the field. I'm waiting on perfect conditions- a warm, overcast day- in which to watch a soccer game!!
This is what I call the "let's get to know one another better, soccer opponent style" touch.
Well, I could be biased, but I see a lot of handsomeness in this picture.
