Easter Sunday- He is risen and flying the turbulent skies

This year, the kids' spring break week was the week after Easter. It's always been the week preceding Easter in the past. We made plans to go to the BEACH for spring break this year. Specifically, Miami beach in Florida. We picked Miami because we wanted to ensure warm/ hot weather and with Miami being as south as it is in Florida, it seemed liked a good beach town in which to chance having warm/ hot weather.

When booking flights, we saw that flying out on Easter Sunday was much more reasonably priced than flying on the Saturday before Easter. Also, one of the cheapest flights left late afternoon on Sunday which worked out perfectly to attend church before leaving for the airport. Easter Sunday four years ago, we were in the Bahamas. Nothing makes you feel more like a Christian loser than spending Easter morning in the shallow end of one of Atlantis' kiddy pools (where an Easter Egg hunt was held) watching your kids hunt for eggs instead of being in church. Good thing we're saved by grace and not by works because we failed in the "works" department that year!!

Easter Sunday, we went to church and then had about an hour and a half to stress make sure we had everything packed before heading to the airport. We flew out of Columbus instead of Dayton, another nod to saving money. In an odd twist, our first flight took us north and west to Chicago instead of south and east, where our destination was. The windy city was particularly rainy and windy and we experienced a lot of turbulence right before we landed. Like, horrible turbulence. Our second flight to Ft. Lauderdale was loooooong and turbulent as well. We've never been so happy to land in our lives. Also, we were tired as the time was approaching midnight when we landed. We still had a 20 minute cab ride to our hotel in Miami. The kids perked up when we arrived in our hotel room shortly after midnight and begged me to take them to the beach just to see the ocean. No one advocated swimming; they wanted to feel the sand under their toes and glimpse the ocean. Who was I to deny them after all we'd been through? Donnie stayed in the hotel room waiting for Jacob's fold out couch/bed to arrive. The kids and I didn't stay long at the beach. They knew we'd be there the next few days. Our adventure was just beginning :).

Easter morning before church

mama and girls

We've been to Columbus lots of times but never to the Columbus airport :)

We had a lot of time to spare before boarding so we took the opportunity to take pictures :)

Pleased to see the girls passing the time with some non electronics- Alyssa brought her Star Wars mad lib book with her.

Poor Jacob- he wanted to go to Key West (inexplicably...) instead of Miami and his mom is taking pictures of him eating Bob Evans in the airport? Could it get any worse??

Will smile for Starbucks...

Flying the friendly albeit extremely turbulent skies...

Finding Garretts popcorn at O'Hare made the turbulence getting to Chicago worthwhile...

That yellow color? BUTTER!!

Destination Ft. Lauderdale...Finally on a plane that's going south instead of north!

Waiting for our taxi in Ft. Lauderdale...

FLORIDA!!

At the beach around 1:15 am!
