Busy weekend- lots of soccer, a dance competition and a birthday
This past weekend was crazy busy and capped off the end of a crazy week weather wise. Saturday, April 9th was snowy and cold. Saturday, April 16 was HOT (high to mid 70's). Or so I hear regarding Saturday. I was three hours north of Springboro and inside a building for 99% of the day on April 16th. More on that later.
Alyssa had a super soccer weekend. About the only way she could have had a more soccer weekend was if she had played in a tournament. On Friday night, Donnie and Alyssa went to Lebanon to watch a boys U10 soccer match between a CU team that friend and neighbor James plays on and a NWC Alliance team (the club most Springboro kids are on) that her school mate/ friend/ soccer club rival Cole plays on. Alyssa and Cole have been in the same class for for three years now. Cole is super into soccer and talks trash about Cincinnati United to Alyssa (and me on occasion when he sees me at school!). Alyssa was looking forward to seeing both of her boy "friends" play each other. Alas, Cole also plays baseball and his team had a game Friday night so Alyssa didn't get to see him. She enjoyed watching the game between the two teams- the game ended in a tie I believe.
Saturday morning, Alyssa had soccer practice. Donnie had a board meeting Saturday morning and I was in Toledo with Abby so I couldn't take her. Donnie asked Uncle Doug if he could take Alyssa to it, which thankfully, he could. Alyssa didn't go home after soccer practice. Rather, she went home with her teammate and friend Chloe. Chloe's family offered tickets to Donnie and Alyssa (and others from the team) to see a soccer match that evening in Cincinnati with Cincy's new minor league soccer team. Donnie met up with Alyssa and Chloe's family after his board meeting and Jacob's soccer game (they lost 2-1) Saturday afternoon. Then Donnie, Alyssa and Chloe's family all went to the soccer game Saturday evening. Alyssa had a great time during her super soccer Saturday :). She was gone from the house from 9:00 ish am until about 11:00 ish pm!!
Abby and I left Springboro on Friday shortly after Abby arrived home from school. We headed to Toledo for a dance competition called Groove. Abby competed her solo Friday evening (late- 10:00 pm!) and then didn't perform again until Sunday when all of her group routines competed. The drive was too long to go back home after Friday evening so we stayed in Toledo all weekend even though we had a whole day with no dancing. Abby watched some of the competition on Saturday (the younger girls from her studio competed their routines on Saturday). I worked out Saturday morning at the hotel (I've never exercised during a dance competition weekend because we're usually too busy. This one was the exception having an entire day where we didn't "have" to be anywhere or do anything) and spent some time at the competition. Later, Abby and I and some of her friends went out to eat dinner. Sunday, Abby competed her group routines.
Almost everything dance wise, went well. Abby did a great job with her solo on Friday evening. She received a good score but did not place. The age group she was competing in was 13-15 and so Abby was on the young end of that. The girls who placed all looked to be on the older end. The group routines did pretty well. They received good scores on two of the routines and a pretty good score on three of them. Abby and I actually didn't stay for the awards. Rather, we left right after her last routine. I asked Abby's dance teacher if she didn't mind if we left after the last routine and not stay for awards since it was my BIRTHDAY! I wanted to get home at a decent time to spend time with Jacob, Alyssa and Donnie on my birthday. Before Abby and I left Toledo, the dance girls all sang to me- so sweet and then we headed home. We brought Abby's friend Natalie home, too. Her mom wanted her home early. We stopped at a Culver's to eat (Abby and Natalie's favorite place to eat together!) on the way home and that ended up being our late lunch/ dinner.
When Abby and I arrived home, Donnie and Alyssa weren't back yet from Alyssa's soccer game (her team won 4-1) that took place early Sunday afternoon. After the game, they made a couple stops including picking up food. They ate dinner when they arrived home. Donnie then went to Dorothy Lane Market to pick up bakery goods/ birthday desserts for me. We ate those goodies around 7:00 pm. It was a good day and I tried to get us all to bed at a decent hour as it had been a busy weekend for all of us (and I'd only slept for about two hours the night before!!). Glad all weekends aren't this busy- I can handle a few like this but wouldn't want them all to be this way :).

I took a few pictures over the weekend of Abby at dance. I didn't take any with my Nikon. Also, picture taken during routines is forbidden at Groove competition. However, a professional photograph took pictures during all the routines and those will be available for us to view in a week or so.

Their musical theater routine is from the musical "Cats." They are, as the picture suggests, cats in the routine.

My "birthday" meal at Culver's on the way home. This was one of those meals that tasted good but I regretted eating almost immediately after consuming!!
Birthday cake from DLM- this is prettier than anything that I've ever made but in everyone's opinion (including mine) was not as good tasting as my cakes are.
The cake was ok, but the real icing on the cake (so to speak) were the sugar cookies that Donnie picked up for Jacob and me at DLM (our favorite dessert there) in addition to the cake.

Abby is in two other routines. Those costumes are "normal" for lack of a better word but I didn't get any pictures of the girls in those costumes because we had quick changes.
