Winter Choir Concert

So this is kind of funny- The Springboro High School Choir had its winter choir concert on Thursday evening. We (as in Donnie and I) didn't know about the concert until about 9:00 pm on Wednesday (that's the kind of the funny part). You know those paper reminders elementary age kids receive when there's an after school event like an art show or a concert? High school kids don't get them (or at least our high schooler doesn't give us notice of these things). I was at dance on Monday talking to one of the moms about how the girls looked a little off that evening. She remarked that her daughter wasn't feeling great but she'd have to miss Thursday dance because of the choir concert Thursday evening so she made her daughter go to Wednesday's dance practice. "There's a choir concert tomorrow?" I asked in a bewildered tone. "Yes, but it's only for kids who are in choir, " she responded. As I was texting Jacob I told her that I had a kid in choir.

My text to Jacob went something like this: Me: You have a choir concert tomorrow? Jacob: yeah. Me: when were you going to tell us? Jacob: tonight.

So then I texted Donnie and told him about the concert. He responded with something like WHAT?? and then asked if Jacob had to attend the concert. Um, yeah, if he/we wanted to keep his A in choir.

When I arrived home, I asked Jacob if he had the proper clothes to wear for the concert. In the fall, he'd given us all of two days notice about the fall choir concert and let me know that he needed a black button down shirt which he didn't currently own. I had to shop at the last minute for him (Kohl's fortunately had a large selection of black button down shirts). Jacob assured me had what he needed.

On Thursday after school, I asked Jacob again if he had what he needed to wear. "Yeah," he replied. I asked him if the boys were to wear the same blue tie to the concert as they'd worn to the fall concert. He responded, "No, we're supposed to wear a holiday tie so I'll wear one of dad's Christmas ties." One of dad's Christmas ties? The one(s) he doesn't have BECAUSE HE'S NEVER WORN A CHRISTMAS TIE EVER? That's what Jacob planned on wearing??? I very calmly explained to Jacob that his dad didn't have a Christmas tie for him to wear (duh? had he ever seen Donnie in a Christmas tie?). Fortunately, Donnie had a tie with some red in it and Jacob said that would be fine.

The concert was really good entertainment even with our recalcitrant choir member who's choir concert communicably challenged.  Jacob definitely sang (I wouldn't say he sang his heart out); I saw his little lips moving and occasionally expressions of emotion even appeared on his countenance. During the boring parts of the concert, (yes, there were a few of those) I pondered some important decisions to be made regarding post concert sugar consumption. Would we go to Diary Queen? Drive all the way to Centerville for Graeter's? Cold Stone perhaps? After the concert, I was a little disappointed when Jacob asked if he could get ice cream with Malcolm. Of course I said that he could but I was disappointed to not be sharing cold creamy goodness with Jacob.

Can you spot Jacob? (Hint, he's the best looking one :))

Wish this one wasn't blurry...

...or this one

For the final song, the Hallelujah chorus, alumni, parents and friends were invited to join the choir members on stage and sing. Also, the high school orchestra played. Such a fantastic way to end the evening.
