Christmas with the cousins
Katy, Scott, and girls arrived late afternoon on the 26th. They were only staying two nights so we had a lot to pack in for their short stay. As usual, we managed to do just that.
They arrived around dinner time but weren't super hungry as they had eaten a late lunch on the road. Still, I "required" them to eat! I had a lot of leftover yummy food from Christmas that they were not going to get out of eating :). The girls performed for us in the basement. Abby choreographed a little dance routine for the girls. It just isn't a visit with the cousins without basement entertainment.
Ceci and Sophie were quite taken with BB8. Ceci has never seen a Star Wars movie in her life (same as Auntie!) but that didn't stop her from loving Alyssa's BB8 and asking her dad if they could get one.
On the 27th, we all slept in and got ready leisurely. We girls had plans to go to the American Girl doll store in Columbus. Ceci and Sophie wanted way fewer Christmas presents from Katy and Scott in return for spending money at the AG store. Donnie and Scott saw Star Wars, each for the second time. Donnie loved seeing the movie the first time with Alyssa and Jacob. He really wanted to watch it again. The guys saw the movie in 3D this time and they opted for the reclining seats at the movie theater. Jacob didn't want to see the movie again and he certainly didn't want to go to the AG doll store! Fortunately, a friend invited him to Sky Zone for the afternoon :).
We made the hour and a half drive to Columbus in the pouring rain. It was not a fun drive (and going home would be worse- in the rain and in darkness, but driving up, I was not thinking about the drive home). Easton was packed but we found a pretty decent parking place in the Macy's parking lot, which unbeknownst to us, was close the AG doll store. I've been to the AG store five times prior to this visit, and each time before this, I'd parked in a parking garage near the store. That parking garage was full so we couldn't park there. We drove around aimlessly for awhile and then got lucky that Macy's had spots open and that the AG store, again, unbeknownst to me since I don't know where most stores are in relations to others at Easton, was close to Macy's.
Ceci and Sophie had a good bit of money to spend; unfortunately, money goes fast at the AG doll store! The big item that both girls wanted, the entertainment set (that we got Alyssa for Christmas) was backordered online and was out of stock at the store. They girls were disappointed since they'd come all this way to shop. They found other things and the store will ship the entertainment set to them when it's stocked. Alyssa picked out two items with her $80 in savings that she brought with her (we didn't give her any money as she'd just beenspoiled treating quite nicely on Christmas day with lots of presents). She bought a $30 dress for one of her dolls (ach, du leiber!) and a cute play set that includes a miniature Blokus game that the AG dolls can play.
The girls were super hungry after shopping and so we ate at Abuelos, a Mexican restaurant that we ate at when we came to Easton with Katy and the girls two summers ago. We remembered how good it was. We went through NINE baskets of chips and salsa (they were fairly small baskets but still) in addition to eating our meals. Alyssa said that, prior to learning that the kids menu had chicken fingers and fries, she wanted white rice and chips to eat as her meal. Heaven forbid she eat a taco or anything with meat... She did end out with some processed meat product (the chicken fingers) which I suppose is better than just eating rice and chips!
After dinner, we headed back to Springboro. The girls showed their items to the dads who'd recently arrived home from getting wings after watching Star Wars. One more dance performance in the basement and the first full day of the cousins' visit was a wrap.
Katy and Scott left the following day after lunch. So much fun in such a short amount of time. Glad we got to spend some time with them.

At the American Girl doll store- It's a good think that Alyssa brought all of her change in addition to dollars. We ended up using $9.00 worth of coins to complete what we needed to make her purchase.
At the restaurant- who knew AG doll shopping would bring out extreme hunger (specifically hunger for chips and dip) ?
