Weekend soccer highlights

Jacob didn't have any soccer games over the weekend but Alyssa had two games over the weekend.

On Saturday, her team faced CU Lakota. Lakota is the team that KILLED us in the final of the CU Elite Cup tournament back in August. They beat us 7-0. They played so much better than our team did. It was an awful loss because it was the final of a tournament and also because Lakota is a rival of ours. Both teams are part of the large soccer club, Cincinnati United. Families from our team know families/ coaches from the other team. And while the rivalry is "friendly" well, it's a rivalry.

Both our team and Lakota's won tournaments last weekend. We won the Midfest tournament which is a fairly low level tournament in terms of teams it attracts. That's why our team played "up" in the tournament and played in the highest division in the older age group. Lakota played and won in a different tournament last weekend. The tournament they were in was a high level tournament so winning it was a big deal.

Lakota probably thought they were going to beat us easily. After all, they beat us easily just last month. And, they just won a high level tournament. I think they thought they had the game in the bag before it began.

But, the little team that could, did. This time around, we played way better than Lakota did. Our defense shut down their offense. Lakota has two really strong forwards who normally dominate. Not in this game. We beat Lakota 4-1. The goal that they scored was really an own goal. We actually scored it for them. So Lakota's strong offense got no where in the game. The girls were so excited that they won. Alyssa's teammate and fellow defender Ainsley came home with us after the game. She and Alyssa played together most of the afternoon. I meant to get some pictures of them at the house playing but I didn't.

On Sunday, Alyssa's team played CSA. This was down in Milford. Donnie's phone GPS took us into a cul- de- sac of a neighborhood subdivision that was close to the park (the park was behind the houses in the cul- de- sac) and the GPS said we should get out of our car and walk to our destination. Odd GPS message since the park (obviously) had its own entrance. You did not have to walk through people's yards to get to the park. We drove out of subdivision and found the actual entrance to the park.

We thought we were going to very easily beat CSA based on stats. It ended up being a close game with us winning 1-0. The field conditions were bad and the ball was taking odd bounces that threw everyone off. We won and that's all that counts!

Bad Nikon! My camera decided to not focus on the foreground but the back ground (look at Alyssa's teammate behind Alyssa. She is in focus, not Alyssa). It would have been a good picture :(.

Goalie

After the game, we stopped at KFC in Lebanon to pick up something to eat for Alyssa. The lady behind the counter looked at Alyssa and handed her a cookie and said, "You're so cute that I'm going to give you a cookie!" That was really nice of her. Alyssa is definitely past the little, little kid age of cuteness. She's still a kid, of course, and cute but comments like that aren't as common when kids are Alyssa's age. The lady then asked Alyssa how her soccer game went (us being bedecked in CU gear and Alyssa's uniform must have been a dead give away about a game :)) and asked if she'd scored any goals. In her quiet talking to stranger voice, Alyssa informed the lady that she was a defender so she didn't score. The lady responded with an "Oh." Not sure if she knew defenders don't score or if she'd never met the likes of a child who only played defense!! My little cutie gave me the cookie when we arrived home. Too bad KFC's specialty isn't baked goods :). Of course I ate the cookie and appreciated Alyssa's generosity.
