Ball Girl
One of Alyssa's soccer teammate's mom (lots of possessives there!) played soccer for the University of Cincinnati. She arranged for the girls on Alyssa's soccer team to be ball girls at a UC women's soccer game. Donnie took Alyssa to the game, which took place early last Sunday afternoon. The girls needed to be at the game an hour early so with drive time, getting there early, and the actual game, they were gone a long time.
Ball children, in this case, ball girls, participate in many high school, college and professional soccer matches. Jacob was a ball boy for Ohio's only professional soccer team, the Columbus Crew when he was about Alyssa's age. Alyssa enjoyed being a ball girl even though she didn't get to too many out of bounds balls. After the game which UC won (but I can't tell you who they played or the score :(), the ball girls were able to get autographs from the UC players. The players signed a small ball and a poster with a team photo. Unfortunately, a pop up shower deluged Donnie and Alyssa right after Alyssa received her autographs (and warped the poster on which the autographs were written) and they decided to make a dash in the rain to the car instead of to the bookstore to shop.
When she arrived home, Alyssa stated that maybe she'd like to go to UC for college. Donnie went there for college and encourages the kids to like UC. I'm not a huge proponent of encouraging the kids to go to UC when there are "safer" college options. UC is not in an entirely safe area of town. Case in point: Alyssa's teacher's son just started college at UC this year. I was volunteering in the cafeteria on Tuesday. Alyssa's teacher was also in the lunch room. I went over to her and asked her what her son thought of college. She replied that it seemed to be going ok for him and then proceeded to tell me in her sing song, -I'm the friendliest fourth grade teacher you'll ever meet- voice that there had been a stabbing right outside his dorm recently. So, yeah, I need to get the kids over to the small town of Bloomington, IN and turn them into Hoosiers!

Speaking of damaged (potentially) pictures, this was the envelope that Donnie pulled out of Jacob's soccer bag that contained Jacob's soccer pictures that we ordered. I was quite worried that the pictures would be damaged after seeing this envelope.
I was pleased that the pictures weren't ruined although they weren't in perfect condition. Super pleased to see this handsome face..
... not pleased to see that Jacob's eyes were closed in the group photo. I called the photo place to get my money back since "Satisfaction was guaranteed" and I'm not satisfied with a picture of my child with his eyes closed. The place said to mail them the picture and they'd try to find another group photo with his eyes open. If they can't find one, they'll refund my money. I guess you can't win them all...
