Tea at the Prince of Wales Hotel- Ontario, Canada
We had tea one afternoon in the drawing room of the historic Prince of Wales hotel in the charming, touristy town of Niagara- on- the Lake. This town is not too far away from Scott and Katy's house. Katy's girls have had tea here several times and Sophie even had her 8th birthday party here.
Katy thought it would be a fun thing for my girls to experience (and a good thing to do on a trip for us to CA when Jacob wasn't with us since he would obviously not be into the experience). I didn't pack dress clothes for the girls but that wasn't a problem. Katy's girls have a huge selection of dresses, including some of Ceci's that fit Abby. Katy curled Abby's hair for the occasion (it looked great but the curls didn't last long thanks to her long non, layered locks). Alyssa didn't bulk at wearing a fancy dress and in fact, seemed to kind of like it.
The Prince of Wales hotel is impressive looking and known for its Victorian decor. Tea is served in the drawing room and that's where we headed for our 12:00 pm reservations after we arrived (we may have taken a few pictures first). A server took our tea order (cannot remember what we ordered but I think it was fruity). We started off with one pot (kettle?) of tea for all of us. With our food came more tea. As for the food, we selected the kids' plate for each girl and Katy and I split an adult portion. We weren't at Cracker Barrel, that's for sure! There was not much food on the platters which the kids were none too happy about. Finger sandwiches, scones, a little fruit, and a mini muffin comprised the kids plate. The adult one was not much larger but a mini quiche was included as was a raspberry type bar. The girls all loved the finger sandwiches and wanted more but my girls did not like the scones. Goodness, what wasn't there to like in the scone? I loved the half that I shared with Katy and then I proceeded to eat my girls' uneaten portions.
The girls really liked having tea at the Prince of Wales hotel. They were at good ages to appreciate the elegance of their surroundings and the uniqueness of having tea in such an environment.
After tea, the girls changed out of their clothes and into bathing suits. Across the street from the Prince of Wales hotel is a city park. It has an old fashioned fountain which people actually get into and splash around in. It isn't big enough to swim in but kids get in the fountain with bathing suits and parents walk around in the fountain. Also near the fountain was a play ground and also nearby, as if built especially for Abby, an open air theater lay open and inviting. We spent a good amount of time in this charming park. Fountain on a hot day, play ground, dancing stage? Yes, please.

I'm losing focus here since this blog post is supposed to be about the Prince of Wales tea and not about sisters but I just can't help it!

This was the platter that Katy and I shared. It was $34.00 plus we had to pay a $12.00 charge for an additional pot of tea in order to share the platter. I didn't quite understand why that had to be (making you buy a pot of tea in order to share a platter) except that the PofW wanted to make more $$.
Each girl received this cute, albeit little, portion of food.

Then Abby discovered this open air stage structure. She was here for awhile. Sophie and Alyssa were her little shadows. They loved playing on the stage.

After we left the fountain/ park area we walked around the town a little bit. We came across this view of the Prince of Wales hotel and had to take a picture.

We dropped Ceci's friend Sterling off at her house when we were done with our Niagara- on- the Lake activities. Sterling's family lives in a gorgeous house that doesn't have much a grassy back yard - Lake Erie comprises the back of the house. The house sits high above the water. Someone built a series of steps from the back of the house down to the water. While Katy was talking with Sterling's mom, I followed the girls down to the water's edge.
The lot next to the house was for sale for close to a million dollars. Should we buy it??
