Rain Day
The kids missed school on Monday due to rain! Hey, no one was complaining around here but it was pretty odd. The temperature was hovering near freezing but never fell below freezing from about noon Sunday to mid afternoon Monday. If the temp had fallen, we would have had an icy mess. It started raining Sunday evening. The fear was that temps were going to drop (as usually happens at night) and all that rain would turn into freezing rain or snow. The temp never dropped and the rain continued throughout Sunday evening and into Monday.
I'd had the kids not set their alarms Sunday evening, thinking that there would be a good chance that they'd have a delay. At first, the school called a 2 hr delay Monday morning (around 5:30 am I received an email; I'm on the DO NOT CALL list!!). I went into Abby's room a little bit after 8:00 to see if she was awake. She was awake and was looking at her phone. She said that people were texting her that there was no school. I said that they were wrong; it was just a two hour delay. Curious as to why kids would think there was no school, I checked my email and sure enough, school had been canceled. Jacob woke up around 9:30 and when I told him there was no school, he looked out the window and asked, "Why?" Maybe there were some slick spots somewhere on the roads. Who knows...
What did the kids do with the day?
Jacob faced a most daunting dilemma: Play Xbox with AJ and Calvin or play PlayStation with Casey? The choices! There were pros and cons to each which he shared with me prior to making his BIG gaming decision. He ended up playing some of both. He was with his friends all day. He had a very enjoyable rain day :)
And the girls? They played together all day. Abby had talked about getting together with one of her friends which I said was fine. She never brought it up, though, during they day. Abby and Alyssa played in Abby's room and they played in the basement. I heard them giggle a lot but I don't know exactly what they did the whole day. They were just together. They had a very enjoyable rain day, too :).
I wish I had taken some pictures to commemorate our unusual day off but because no one did anything particularly exciting, I didn't take any pictures.
So, I'll post a couple of pictures from Sunday, the day before the rain day. Donnie and I painted the kitchen. We painted it "Perfect Greige" from Sherman Williams which is the same color as the family room. We love the color and with the open floor plan, thought that it would look good to have that color continuity. I was never crazy about the sage green color of the kitchen although in some light, I liked it. Donnie painted the kitchen sage green the weekend that we moved into the house nine years ago. Nine years is a LONG time for a room to retain a paint job, especially a room like a kitchen that people are in constantly. I'm so glad that we took the time (and boy did it take time...) to paint the kitchen. We're looking forward to more updates to the house (not looking forward to the work but to the results) in the near future. Change is good when it involves not seeing nine year old paint on a wall!
