Beyond Busy Weekend Part 2- Skate Dance Dream
Almost as soon as school ended on Friday, Abby and I headed to the Kettering Rec Center to go back to Skate Dance Dream. Abby and the other dancers started learning the opening and closing numbers of the Skate Dance Dream show that was to be held on Saturday evening at Kettering Rec Center. The dancers took classes from Sara Von Gillirn who was a top 10 finalist for one year on "So You Think You Can Dance." After the dancers had some practice learning these routines, and a subsequent quick dinner, they they had a dress rehearsal from 7:30- 10:30. It was a LONG evening!
We arrived home close to 11:00. Of course we didn't go to bed right away. Abby was full of energy and was happy to be home and to see her family (besides me whom she seen most of the afternoon and all evening!).
Saturday morning, Abby and I headed back to Kettering Rec Center at 9:30. We would be in Kettering for the next 12 hours! The day was full of a dance workshop, mandatory opening and closing number practices, participant meet & greet with the stars, and solo and group number practices. Around 3:00, we were done with all practices associated with the show. The participates needed to be back at the rec center at 5:30. They needed to be dressed with make up and hair done. Several of us mom and daughters decided to stay in the area. We would not have much time at home if we left Kettering. Fortunately, I had planned on staying, so I had all of Abby's hair and make up items. Several of us went to the nearby Greene to have an early dinner. We ate at EO Burger. It was yummy- can you say a side item of fries and onion rings- and then did a very little shopping before heading back to the Rec Center. We moms got the girls hair and make up done at the Rec Center and then bid them farewell when they went backstage.
The show was really great! A dance stage was set up on top of the ice rink. This allowed, obviously, dancers to dance. The majority of the ice rink was still an ice rink so that, obviously, skaters could skate. The show consisted of dance and skate routines. Most of the routines were done by younger kids who'd auditioned to have a routine in the show. The "stars," older, talented skaters and dancers also performed routines. It was cool to see talented ice skaters. Before, I'd only seen ice skating routines done on TV. I'd never seen them live before. The show was very entertaining! Just Donnie and Alyssa came to it from our family. The tickets were $25.00 a piece so we didn't make Jacob go. :) Overall it was a great experience for Abby. She loved it even though she didn't like being away from home so much of her weekend.
