Soccer Saturday & Sunday

Jacob's team played in a soccer tournament over the weekend near Cincinnati. His first game was at 12:40 on Sat. and he was to arrive at the field by 12:00. Jacob's coach said that traffic and parking would be an issue so we left the house around 11:00. During the drive, the sprinkling of rain increased to a downpour and as we headed into the park (after 20 minutes of stop and go traffic) we heard the ominous roar of thunder and noted that no players were on any of the multitude of soccer fields. The tournament came to a halt for the next four hours due to the thunderstorm. Lucky us, we sat in our car for HOURS(!) waiting for word of cancellation or postponement. Finally, at 4:00, Donnie said the girls and I might as well head home since we still didn't know when Jacob's team would play. The boys secured a ride home and and girls and I left. They ended up playing one game at 6:00 as opposed to the two they were supposed to play. They lost which meant the tournament was over as far as any chances our team had of winning or even coming in second place. Still, we trekked back to the park Sunday morning (this time to record breaking heat but at least we were able to leave the car and watch an actual game being played!).

The boys lost this game as well, 0-1. Jacob played pretty well. The game didn't really matter, although of course no one wanted to lose.

Thank goodness for Barbies! The girls played with these in the car on Saturday and brought them on Sunday. I snapped some pictures- I couldn't resist. I loved the juxtaposition of the boys' soccer bags and the Barbie dolls!

The boys soccer bags were clustered together before their game started. The girls decided this was a fine spot to play Barbies!

The girls set the girls up.

Jacob throws the ball in.

Run, Jacob run!
Jacob's head is tilted because he just headed the ball.

In the second half, Jacob's position was played closer to the spectator's side. It's much better for picture taking!
