Recapping Christmas celebrations and the weekend- linking up with Holly and Sarah for Hello Monday:
We had three Christmas celebrations- the 24th, 25th and 26th and we hosted two out of the three. Lots of work but loads of fun and festive cheer.
On Christmas Eve, I got up and prepped quite a bit for the Christmas day meal we were serving. And by prepped I mean I roasted the turkey (baking the turkey the day before is a game changer! It takes a lot of time to get all the meat off the bone and time is something we don´t have an excess amount of on Christmas day), got a few sides and an appetizer prepped and in the fridge. I also found time for a run on the treadmill, a short family devotional and pictures all before heading to church and then to Donnie´s mom house for a meal and get together.

I got all the gifts put in bags or wrapped by the afternoon on the 24th. Not gonna lie, I am proud of myself as I wrapped/assembled all of the gifts here. Many years, I voluntell Donnie to wrap some presents but not this year. He´s so busy at work yet still managed to buy most of the present here himself (the kids sent him and not me (lol) their lists with links) not to mention his work is what allows us to buy what we do so I let him off the hook present wrapping wise. In addition to buying gifts for the kids, we purchased gifts for my nieces and we exchanged gifts with eleven adults so buying/wrapping/keeping track of gifts can be a challenge, albeit a mostly fun one!!

Buc-ee´s first Christmas with us!!

At Donnie´s mom´s house- our first family picture of the year 2025- better late than never, right??

She had food catered from a local restaurant

And my SIL brought loads of goodies from a Cincinnati bakery

Christmas morning- I got up and got the ham in the oven. When Alyssa got up, she started the cinnamon rolls. We had to have everyone up at a pretty early hour to get presents opened and then the house ready for guests to come over at 1:00.
We had fewer people over than usual so everyone sat in the kitchen or near it. Most years we have people sitting at the kitchen table and dining room table. All of the older adults sat at the kitchen table that I elongated and our kids sat at the table behind the sofa table.
The girls were the best helpers! It´s easy to get nostalgic over kids´ childhoods and the joy of Christmas morning with young kids. But goodness, there´s something to be said for young adult daughters who make the mashed potatoes and sweet potato casserole completely on their own while I was getting other things done for our Christmas meal.
Donnie´s sister brought this delicious shrimp tray
Christmas evening the Stranger Things fans watched the two episodes that dropped on Christmas. I found an Anthony Horowitz book available on my library´s digital service and began to read that- what a treat! It was a good way to end a busy few days.
The next day, we were having my family over. Thankfully, we had many leftovers and the weather was nice. We had decided to grill steaks and I just had to make one side dish- for the rest of the meal we had leftovers.
Loved seeing MG and all the family!
Several pics like this- she was on the move!
That takes us to Saturday. We had no one coming over to the house and nowhere that we had to be. No dishes to prepare, no house to clean up, and we had a refrigerator (still!) full of leftovers. What did I do to deserve this? Well, actually, I had done quite a bit in the preceding days so I sort of had done something to deserve it :).
I didn´t leave the house except to run to the mall quickly with Jacob to get him a couple of items that he wanted.
Jacob got a couple of pairs of jeans which was good but the mall, overall, was depressing. Even more stores have closed since I was last in it. Bless JC Penney´s and Macy´s hearts- those two anchor stores are still there while two others have shuttered their doors. And it looks like the mall time honored tradition of pictures with Santa occurred which is good? I guess?
Shortly after we got home from the mall, Abby left for an out of state trip. She won´t return until New Years Day.
My dinner Saturday evening- it was the only meal of the day that I had! With all the eating I´d done the past few days, I decided to not eat until I was hungry. That wasn´t until dinnertime!
Sunday morning, I got up, ran and then got ready for church. Straight from church we went to Marion´s Pizza with some family members. Pizza was good and a nice break from steak/turkey/ham :).
The rest of the day and evening was low key and relaxing!
You are an amazing hostess and so wonderful that the girls helped you so much! Your meals look and sound fabulous and the house looks stunning! That is lots of work so hope you can get some rest in now! 68 degrees? I am so jealous! That must have felt so great. Happy New Year my friend XO
ReplyDeleteThanks, Holly! It did feel great but it´s 28 right now and feels like 14. I am glad we spent time outdoors yesterday!
DeleteI agree. Grown up girls are great : ) Sounds like you had a lot of nice family time. We had super warm weather here but missed it as we were up north for the holidays. Your house looks pretty...do you leave it decorated or take it down early? We won't de-Christmas until next weekend. I love this quiet week in between the holidays. Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joyce! I like this week a lot, too. Donnie is working today and tomorrow- little rest for the weary- but the rest of us are off and it´s really enjoyable. I haven´t completely decided about decor. I will likely take it down in batches over the course of a few days.
DeleteYou have such a beautiful family! So nice to have that help with food prep, which all sounds so good. It is fun to be in the kitchen together. You worked hard, so glad you had some down time Saturday. 11 adults is a lot of people to buy for & keep up with gifts/wrapping. Great job this holiday season and have a good Monday!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marilyn! I loved and appreciated the help! The season was full of work but I feel like I never got super stressed. It helps that the kids are older, they don´t need to be driven places, etc.
DeleteYour town is so charming! Yes, it is nice to have young adults helping with the meal, chores, etc. It looks like a wonderful Christmas, and lots of hosting for you! I cooked a turkey for Thanksgiving the day before one year. It was a big crowd coming so I actually roasted two, and it was so much easier the day before. I feel the same way about wrapping gifts etc. It is a happy chore. We also don't get many family pictures together anymore, so I snap them when I can! I'm glad it was a good Christmas week for your family!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tanya! You actually inspired me to get a photo- I mean I would have wanted one anyway but I see such good pics of your family when you´re all together; I knew I needed to make more of a conscious effort. TWO turkeys? That is a lot! You must have had a crowd :).
DeleteIt sounds like a wonderful 3 day celebration! I was the same way on Friday (that you were on Saturday) and only ate a salad for dinner at that because I still wasn't feeling hungry but was afraid I might wake up in the middle of the night with hunger pains.
ReplyDeleteThere´s just so many days I can overeat in a row! A salad sounds so good and healthy!
DeleteSo smart on day before turkey and it looks perfect! So many nice get togethers and you did an amazing job! Now, take a nap! You earned it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amy! I must be still on a sugar high because I can´t nap but I´m sure I´ll take one at some point soon :).
DeleteOh wow! It sounds like you had a really busy but wonderful Christmas! I always cook the meat on Christmas Eve and prep the veg, it takes so much stress out of Christmas day! What lovely photos and the food looks so good!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kim! Everything worked out pretty well, thankfully :). Cooking the meat on Christmas Eve is the best idea- I see I´m not the only one who´s thought to do that!
DeleteHappy Christmas memories, I enjoyed reading each day and LOVED all the photos. I love, love the one of your son and his grandma, so sweet.
ReplyDeleteAll the food, is making me hungry... so many good eats. :-)
Enjoy this last week of the year.
Love, Carla
Thanks, Carla! I hope you are enjoying the last week of the year. I think the picture of Jacob and his grandma was sweet, too!
DeleteLooks like some great holiday celebrations!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dara! Yep, lots of good ones :).
DeleteWhat a lovely Christmas and weekend! I know Saturday must have felt amazing to have that first day at home without anything else. That steak dinner looks amazing! I also love the picture of your town; it looks so charming and quaint!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenn! Our town is charming and on my goodness, Saturday morning was amazing!!
DeleteYou certainly deserved a day or two to catch your breath after all the prepping and cooking that went in to your Christmas celebrating! Everything looked wonderful(and delicious, too)! What a blessing to have time with so many loved ones and to have your kids with you, too! I'm glad you were able to get a walk in, too - what a charming town!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laura! Our town is charming and yes, it was wonderful to relax after a few very busy days :).
